the fourth generation of cars of the BMW 5 family, which was produced from 1995 to 2004 inclusive. The predecessor of this generation were cars of the E34 generation, and it was replaced by the E60 generation (in 2003), and the BMW F10 (in 2010) in a completely new BMW style. The base model in the family was the 520i. The car had a 2.0 liter engine with a power of 150 hp, after restyling the volume increased to 2.2 liters and the power to 170 hp. A sports version of the BMW M5 was released in 1998. It was equipped with an eight-cylinder S62 engine with 400 hp, which was made on the basis of the previous generation M62B44 engine. All cars, except the BMW 535 and BMW M5, were available in sedan and station wagon body styles. The BMW 535 and BMW M5 were produced only as a sedan.
