The Angolan Civil War was a civil war in Angola, beginning in 1975 and continuing, with interludes, until 2002. The war began immediately after Angola became independent from Portugal in November 1975

So let me get this straight, When the British lost the colony [of Modern day Angola], There was a huge power gap between both parties of Angola. Right?

Angola was a portuguese colony. Two nationalist factions waged a guerilla war to make the portuguese get out of the country, one was communist and the other was a right wing militia. After the portuguese got out they fought in a civil war to control Angola.
