Information for Travellers

The Avastan system contains five rocky worlds, four gas giants, one asteroid belt and one ice belt.

Avastan’s Class C Starport is a major stopping point for starships trading along the Collace arm.

The planet Avastan is a poor, non-industrial meso world with a cold climate, very thin atmosphere - most sophonts will require a respirator or oxygen mask to breathe - and a small amount of surface water.

The planet Avastan is reliant on goods brought in by off-world traders to maintain TL-10.

The planet Avastan is mineral poor and was one of the last systems to be settled in the District 268 Subsector.

The Avastan system sits on the Jump-1 trade route of the Collace Arm, a fact that attracted Avastan Portways Inc (API) to set up a Class C Starport in 1005. The planet Avastan remained unsettled, with API expelling any squatters, until 1024 when API renounced its claim to the planet and settlers began to arrive.

Avastan currently has a population of around seven hundred thousand sophonts, mostly political refugees from neighbouring systems, living in the Downport area and in a scattering of small settlements.

Avastan is a Participatory Democracy, although political disputes often result in the losing party leaving to create a new settlement. The population is strongly anti-authoritarian, so there are few laws and only a local posse to enforce them.

The simulation is currently stable, but that might change when running the simulation forward.
