How to play in tate mode.
By A.M.
Castlevania Dominus Collection -- original games played on the DS -- deserves to be played in tate/potato/vertical mode. This guide will attempt to rectify this issue. Perfect? Probably not. But it works.

Windows Settings
These are my settings for the display within the Windows OS:

  • Right-click on your desktop.

  • Select "Display Properties".

  • Select "Portrait/Portrait Flipped", Depending on how your display is and how it rotates.

  • Select "Keep Changes", if it did indeed rotate for you. If not, you might need to update your drivers, or adjust your display through its OSD. (The settings that are built in the monitor itself.)

  • Final result should look something like this:

Congrats! You have rotated your display!

Theoretically, this similar process SHOULD work similarly on the Steam Deck.
You'll have to go to the Desktop on the Steam Deck and there should be an option somewhere for display settings.

Please Continue to the Final Step.
Nvidia Settings
  • Right-click on your desktop.

  • Select "NVIDIA Control Panel".

  • On Windows 11, select "Show More Options".

  • When in the Nvidia Control Panel, select "Rotate Display" located on the left sidebar.

Depending on how your display is and how it rotates, you may need to choose "Portrait Flipped".
Otherwise, you'll probably be using Portrait.

  • Select "Apply" and wait for the screen to change. If it's correct, you're all set! If not, you might need to update your drivers, or adjust your display through its OSD. (The settings that are built in the monitor itself.)

  • Final result should look something like this:

Congrats! You have rotated your display!

FINALLY!
Before we continue:

I recommend Nospine's guide, as it may help to further optimize.

Now... LAUNCH THE GAME (IF YOU'RE NOT USING LOSSLESS SCALING) AND PRESS ALT+ENTER!

Don't worry about the launch game menu. It's not representative of what it will look like in-game!

These are the settings you need to worry about whilst in-game:

THE FINAL RESULT

This is how it should look on your display now:

You did it! Congratulations!

Closing words:

I hope this helped and was useful to you! Please, enjoy the games!

Those with displays that can be swiveled vertically will benefit most for this. Again, my apologies.

This is for those who wish to play in full tate mode--vertial screen and all, with complete screen coverage. As opposed to simply playing in a 16:9/16:10/etc. Forgive me for not making it clearer and more understanding. :(

This is entirely unnecessary. Just hit LT while in-game, go to additional settings. There you can modify the screen layout at will.

This is great, thank you.
