Description
Ambition Unreachable

Rework of the act 4 boss fight to make it more of a marathon rather than a damage race. The boss moves are more manageable, the health is scaled up appropriately.

Also, a cool twist to the boss fight that I feel was very appropriate for this specific enemy.


This is the third of my "Mountain boss rework pack". We are almost there for the fill pack release.

What does the mod actually do?

Read on if you want to get spoiled on the new mechanics:



General changes
Wait, why is the boss so close to my heroes? Oh! It moves! Yes, I took the trick from the Death's fight and applied to the yet again boring size 4 Mountain boss to make it more unique. Be careful of skills, now point blank shot may not be very reliable.

Phase 1
The boss will start very close but retreat to the back, with each punch he will inch forward and repeat the cycle. It is not a scripted cycle, try moving the boss and see how he it will mess up his rotation of skills.

A few minor changes:

- The ideation skill now pulls and adds a bleed resist debuff, the second effect does nothing in phase 1 but will stay on for the remaining phases.
- Setback attack has more minimal damage at the cost of lower damage range.
- Setback now pierces 50% move resist on combo.
- Phase 1 has +20% base health

No other changes for this phase, it is just a prelude to the real fight after all.

Phase 2
This is the most minimal of the changes, the boss is still size 2 and will move around a lot more erratically than phase 1 but generally gravitate toward the center.

A few minor changes:

- +20% health at the cost of -20% damage for a longer fight.
- Precise Intent attacks now have a chance to add combo

Phase 3
Almost complete overhaul of this phase. The boss gains a massive health bust at the cost of no longer doing full party cleave at the end of each round. Now it reuses the Contempt tokens from phase 2. In particular:

- At round end, last grasp hits all heroes with contempt tokens.
- Rumination adds 2 contempt tokens (if your party does not have any)
- Riposte has a 30% chance of adding contempt tokens
- The boss starts with 2 dodge and block tokens

Now rather than getting all heroes to death's door at every turn, you can see who will be attacked and there is counter-play to the boss moves. For example guarding a hero with contempt will not remove the token, so the boss will not add new contempt tokens as long as that hero is guarded.


This mod is compatible with the Bastard's Beacon for a truly terrifying boss fight. Although I think the Bastard's Beacon version of boss 4 is a bit overpowered in phase 2, I encourage you to try how it is different with this mod on.

Ah, thanks. Did not change my mind, I just forgot to change the resistance. Will update it soon

Regarding difficulty, I think for some team it might be easier and for others harder, for this mod pack I want the bosses to still be beatable in bastard's beacon so I try to balance around that torch.

Cool idea! Definitely makes the fight more fair, but easier overall

Just letting you know the boss cannot be moved with his extremely high move resistance based on the fight I just had with it, not sure if you changed your mind here:

"try moving the boss and see how he it will mess up his rotation of skills"
