Information for Travellers

The Mjolnir system contains twelve rocky worlds, two asteroid belts and two gas giants.

The Mjolnir system is an S-Type binary. Two stars – Oliver and Closamont – formed from the same proto-stellar cloud. Both stars have their own solar systems.

In the recent past a rogue object passed through the star Closamont’s solar system, disrupting the asteroid belt and sending a cloud of asteroids spiralling towards the star. This places the inner planets in danger of a major impact event so those planets are deemed unsafe for settlement.

The Mjolnir system is part of the Gungnir Spur. It sits on the border with the Imperium.

The Mjolnir system is a member of the Sword Worlds Confederation.

The Class B Starport provides refined fuel taken from the gas giant Trondheim. There is a Sword Worlds naval base, and a military base located in the system.

Mjolnir relies on off-world traders bringing in goods to maintain TL-10.

Mjolnir is a Desert, Non-industrial, Poor moon with a Very thin atmosphere captured from the planet Niflheim – most sophonts will require a respirator or oxygen mask to breathe – and no surface water.

The planet Niflheim is a Super Earth with twice standard gravity. Its dense atmosphere has a thick cloud cover that obscures the surface. It also harbours unknown biological or possibly nano-technical organisms that consume any probe or starship that enters the atmosphere.

These organisms are thought to be the result of some type of failed terraforming effort by an unknown ancient civilisation.

The planet Mjolnir has a native biome of silicone-based single celled organisms. These produce a silicone oil which is highly effective as a lubricant, which is the main reason why Mjolnir was colonised at all.

The moon Mjolnir was first surveyed by the Darrians sometime in the -1000s. It was colonised sometime in the -300s by settlers from the Old Earth Union.

In 1044 a massive earthquake collapsed the dome of Midhvolf, Mjolnir’s capital city, killing 75% of the population and wiping out the Religious Dictatorship that ruled the moon.

Mjolnir is now a Representative Democracy. The population of 52,000 mostly human sophonts cultivate and extract the silicone oil for export.

The simulation is currently stable, but that might change when running the simulation forward.
