Information for Travellers

The Gungnir system contains eight rocky worlds, three asteroid belts and two gas giants.

At some point in the past Gungnir’s star Bevis captured the smaller passing star Morglay, forming a P-Type binary system. As the two solar systems combined a series of planetary collisions created the extensive asteroid belts.

The Gungnir system is part of the Gungnir Spur. Although it sits on the border with the Imperium Gungnir is a relative backwater.

Gungnir is a member of the Sword Worlds Confederation.

The Class B Starport provides refined fuel processed from Gungnir’s oceans. There is a small Sword Worlds military base located in the system.

Gungnir relies on off-world traders bringing in goods to maintain TL-8.

The planet Gungnir is an Agricultural meso world with a Thin atmosphere and a moderate amount of surface water.

The planet Gungnir has a unique biome.

At some point in the past Gungnir’s moon was struck by another large body. The moon shattered and several large pieces struck Gungnir leaving three massive craters that today hold Gungnir’s oceans. The same event created massive mountain ranges 24km high that jut above the thin atmosphere, dividing Gungnir in half.

This allowed life to evolve independently in the two major oceans, resulting in Gungnir having essentially two entirely different, incompatible biospheres. It was only when life emerged onto the land that these two biomes met and began to compete.

The result was one of the most dangerous biomes in Chartered Space. Organisms have developed almost every conceivable form of attack or defence.

The planet Gungnir was first surveyed by the Darrians sometime in the -1000s. It was colonised sometime in the -300s by settlers from the Old Earth Union.

Gungnir has a Balkanized Government. The population of 600,000 mostly human sophonts are split into a small number of Jarldoms. The population are mostly animal herders and grain farmers.

The right to bare arms or wear armour is strictly controlled and is determined by Social Standing. Off-worlders have no right to carry weapons or to wear armour without the express permission of a Jarl.

The planet Gungnir also possesses a large brewing industry. Beers and spirits made using the native wildlife have unique flavors, and often psychedelic or even psychotropic effects.

Gungnir is seen as representing the archetypal Sword Worlder: a stoic, hardy and resourceful yeoman, battling a hostile world while maintaining a traditional lifestyle.

The simulation is currently stable, but that might change when running the simulation forward.
