Description
The XM-04A "Harbax" Assault Strider is the newest in the experimental line of Ikuyo Aerospace combat vehicles, bringing unparalleled mobility, firepower and longevity to the battlefield. The Harbax began development with the outbreak of the current war against the Factorum. Originally intended as an autonomous combat platform, a sudden turn in the fortunes of war pressed it into service years sooner than expected. The Harbax is now know as "The Widowmaker" by the outer-rim conscripts who are forced to pilot it on the frontlines. Nonetheless, highly trained and skilled operators can make tremendous use of the dual 57mm smoothbore autoloaders and effectively engage almost any ground-based armored threat. What the Harbax lacks in armor it makes up for in mobility capable of over 2.5G acceleration on ground and a top traverse speed of 250 m/s. If you've got the skill, the guts and the pride to fight just one more day, the Harbax will be punching right along with you...

Armament
  • 2x 57mm Smoothbore Autoloading Cannons: 1.2km maximum firing range.
  • 2x 12.7mm Gas-Operated Machine Guns: 800m maximum firing range.

Features
  • All Atmospheric Environments: Owing to a tremendous power to weight ratio, the Harbax is capable of reliably skimming and climbing any terrain on any atmospheric planet and can even fly under its own power.
  • Cheap and Light: Designed foremost for rapid production and easy replacement of losses, the Harbax uses no subgrids and a bare minimum of expensive components. Unlike other Ikuyo Aerospace vehicles, the Harbax has little redundancy but is still tough as nails, and at under 25 tons can be transported virtually anywhere on the battlefield with ease by ships such as the UV-119, FS-17 and LCH-10.
  • Battery Powered: Most ground vehicles utilize nuclear power - the XM-04A, like most Ikuyo Aerospace vehicles instead utilizes extremely cheap battery power - capable of over 1 hours of operation at 200 m/s.
  • Simple Aiming: Utilizing the same gyroscopic stabilization system found on the Matsukaze Reconaissance Bike augmented through the use of small ducted fans, the Harbax is capable of picking itself up on two legs and super elevating or depressing its gun to any angle.
  • Fast as Hell: The defining trait of the Harbax is now legendary across the system. Capable of handling slopes, inclines and rough terrain in excess of 75 m/s and large flat surfaces at up to 250 m/s, the Harbax will outpace most air-vehicles. It is also capable of turning on a dime owing to its variable friction skid system and powerful thrusters.
  • Survival Ready: Fully plumbed and survival ready. No subgrids present and can be build using only early-game resources and components.

Datasheet
  • PCU: 1792
  • Block Count: 285
  • Non-Armor Blocks: 121
  • Triangles: 370,185
  • Grid Mass: 23,025kg
  • Lifting Capacity: 14 rounds of Assault Cannon Ammo, 4 boxes of Gatling Ammo. 33 more assault cannon shells in reserve which must be manually loaded.

Scripts
No scripts are included by default. The gyroscopic stabilization and vertical aiming system is script-free and serves and is enabled by action 7 in the first row of the driver hotkeys.

DLCs and Redistribution
This ship is vanilla but uses a large amount of DLC.

Notes
If you've watched Eighty-Six, hopefully the inspiration is clear here. I thought the notion of a light, nimble and pilot-safety-optional mech was awesome and wanted something like that in space engineers. Originally I began this project as a proper articulated mech but was never happy with the performance I could get out of it. After taking a look at some strider designs, I started down that path and ultimately came up with a system using gyro overrides that let me entirely eliminate aiming hinges and rotors from the design and thus all subgrids.

Special Credits
This design took tremendous inspiration from the Huntsman Hexapedal Strider by madeupfox (which I presume was also inspired by Eighty-Six). Please check it out!

Suggestions
I'm always open to suggestions or ideas so please let me know if you have any! This is designed to be a truly multi-role vehicle so as always, please feel free to post any modifications or remixes you make - no attribution required.

Hey just wanna say that it looks amazing and I'm definitely gonna try it with my 1:1 XM2 Reginleif design. Also my design works with 4, 2 segment legs that move by simply sliding to fit the direction and elevation of the chassis. It's pretty smooth but perhaps it wasn't what you were looking for. Ammo is loaded manually into the guns through through the side ports (covered in blue lights but still accesible). Recharging connector is covered by the two light gray panels on the bottom.

Just built this, and my first thought is... where's the connector for battery charging and ammo loading?

sees this, flashes back to early access, crosses self to ward off clang

Freaking love the mod!!!! As an 86 fan this was so damn cool to see! If you could also post that springy version you mentioned that would be dope too! Either way thank you so much!!! We won't forget!

I also figure this could use some explanation. If you want to aim up and down, are damaged or going over particularly rough terrain, turn on the "XM-04A Vertical Systems". That activates the stabilizer gyros and some small thrusters that help take weight off the vehicle.

This has done way better than I expected so thanks for all the love! @Soulspatch this is a small grid. @WindUpHero7 I did actually start this as an articulated strider with torsion suspension first but ended up getting rid of that once i figured out how to make the guns rotorless too. It was definitely cooler though so I can probably churn out a version with some bouncy legs pretty easily.

Man, alot of people making stuff inspired by Eighty-Six suddenly, Some news come out that I missed or something?
Love Eighty-Six mechs!

We're going on ahead, Major.

The only change I want to make to this build is swap the legs out for a torsion-spring suspension script. It'll weaken the design, sure, but hoppy-slidy-skip motion is more important right?
