Information for Travellers

The Biter system contains seven rocky worlds and one gas giant.

At some point in the past the star Thorin captured the smaller passing star Gondolin to form a S-Type binary. Both stars have solar systems.

The Biter system sits on the Trailing Worlds Corridor, an important Jump-1 trade route. It is also an important link to the Metal Worlds and the Imperium.

Biter is a member of the Sword Worlds Confederation.

The Biter system has a Class B Starport that provides refined fuel harvested from the gas giant Motsognir. The Starport also hosts an IISS base that maintains the Xboat route between the Five Sisters Subsector and the Imperial Main.

There is also a small Sword Worlds naval base and a tiny military base in the system.

Biter is reliant on off-world traders to bring in goods to maintain TL-10.

The planet Biter is an Agricultural, Non-industrial, small world with a Thin atmosphere and a moderate amount of surface water.

The planet Biter was terraformed by an ancient civilization around 300,000 years ago. The planet however is too small and has been slowly losing atmosphere and water to space. The ocean is surrounded by broad salt flats indicating that Biter once had 50% surface water.

The planet Biter also has the most diverse biome in the Sword Worlds. Organisms from 43 different planets are found on Biter. After 300,000 years of evolution this has resulted in many hybrids and unique wildlife.

The planet Biter was first surveyed by the Darrians sometime in the -1000s. It was colonised sometime in the -300s by settlers from the Old Earth Union.

Biter was an unimportant backwater until Hofud invaded the neighboring Sting system. Sting’s Government fled to Biter and Hofud followed, invading Biter in 383. After 20 years of constant fighting Hofud began a forced deportation of the populations of both Sting and Biter to other systems.

In 439 Hofud abandoned its conquest of the Sting and Biter systems, leaving both in ruins. Biter’s population had been reduced from 20,000,000 to a few thousand, and the environment was devastated by the widespread use of chemical weapons and defoliants.

After hundreds of years the environment has slowly recovered, and bolstered by returning exiles the population has reached 200,000.

Biter is a Participating Democracy, with the population regularly attending moots to vote on laws and policies. Roughly half of the population is employed by the Starport, and the other half is engaged in small-holder farming.

In the aftermath of the Forth Frontier War Biter signed an agreement with the Third Imperium to host a small IISS base that maintains an important Xboat link.

Biter has a reputation of being friendly towards the Imperium and is viewed with suspicion by the rest of the Sword Worlds Confederation.

The simulation is currently stable, but that might change when running the simulation forward.
