In the MCC there are several terminals hidden throughout every game which provide a massive amount of lore and insight into the pre-Halo firing era, the creation of the covenant and even the 100 thousand year long mental deterioration of 343 guilty spark, which was probably one of the few good things 343 industries ever did.

It even shows how the Covenant found Earth. They found an artifact which lead to the portal to the arc, and the covenant was like "Ok, Prophet of Regret, go to Erde Tyrene and find the forerunner portal, in and out, 15 minute adventure"

And then they bumbled blindly into the Human Homeworld.

I always enjoy reading on it and seeing what new pieces of lore people uncover.

The Precursors(the oldest race in that universe) used a stock specie and altered it in 2 different ways, creating in the process 2 different evolutionary paths. One led to Humanity, the other to Forerunners. From all the lore I’ve read they share genetic markers from the same ancestor.

I did say between 1000s to a million years, It’s been a while since I’ve read on it. :lunar2019crylaughingpig:

These humans would be known as "Reclaimers", the most famous of which being the Master Chief. The Covenant was formed upon the worship of forerunner tech, (in particular a certain forerunner dreadnought) which lead to them discovering Humanity, and subsequently the portion of humanity with the Reclaimer marker, which directly conflicted with their religion, so the prophets decided to genocide us as a cover up, thus starting the Human-Covenant war.

Thats right. The Human-Covenant War was the Covenant prophets poor attempt at religious damage control.

I gotta say it. I used to be a bit of a Halo nerd so I feel obligated to 'Erhm acktchually" your explanation there.

The forerunners did not go extinct millions of years ago. They died off around 100 thousand years ago.

Furthermore, as far as I know, modern Humanity doesn't share DNA with them. Humanity coexisted with the forerunners in a space faring capacity, however during the first flood outbreaks, Humanity glassed the hell out of a forerunner planet which would have eventually become completely infected, causing a war between the two races, which Humanity lost, and the forerunners knocked humanity from a space fairing species into a pre-industrial hunter-gatherer society.

However once the flood became a problem and the forerunners built the Halo rings to wipe it and it's food (That being sentient life) out of existence, they saved stocks of DNA from all major species, except their own, and added certain markers to some of the newly birthed humans.

Wow.

Some of the rings have the ability to create a field to stabilize portions of missing sections but it would cost a lot of energy to sustain it. The rings have millions of robots that have ability to repair the ring during that time. These were made by a highly technologically advanced race that were instinct for 1000s to millions of years and much is still unknown about their technology, but humans share DNA with the Forerunner and are able to interact with their technology.

Also some(Not all rings are the same design) can also jettison portion of the surface to space to prevent uncontrollable outbreaks, create a worm hole to jump, it can put sections in a time stasis at the cost of loosing enormous amount of energy(last resort) and all are weapons/life form library that can wipe all life for pretty much the entire universe with the simultaneous firing of all rings.

I've never played Halo, but, if the ring were broken like that, wouldn't all the atmosphere drain out?
