Heavy jets from the nation of Sowur pummel the ground with cannons. By the time the menace passed, brass streams flow along the land, pooling into lead trenches. Casualties are being called in at an alarming rate, "General we must take action!" But there was no answer, for the heavy jets flew high, high enough that any bullets that reached them bounced off their thick armor. No plane could combat them, for the sky would be saturated with a piercing rain, and the plane would be captured as a pointillist art piece. The few cannons powerful enough to reach them were too slow and inaccurate to do any good. As it was, they would continue unopposed, marching along the sky. A shadow of death.
That night the general had a dream. A sunny dream. He stood on calm waters. A perfect mirror dividing the horizon. The sky became cloudy, and it began to pour. Not lead, but tears. Tears from losing everything you've loved.
Tears from your bright and sunny world being choked with smoke and sulfur. Tears for innocence, suffocating.
He who should be in the greatest position of power, was helpless. Everyone looked to him, and he did not know who to look towards.
The tears fell and fell, yet they never hit the water. They continued falling through, into that mirror world. The first drop shrunk to a dot and then became invisible. A few seconds passed, "BANG!", "BANG!", a third, a fourth, a hundredth, a thousandth, a millionth. The clouds pummeled their very image, until they were reduced to the very air they came from.
The general got to work the next morning his mind renewed. He realized he could take the enemy jets and put them on the ground, with no need for flight he could reduce their components, simplify their assembly. For the same price it cost the enemy to produce a jet, he could produce a vehicle with ten times the firepower, and thrice the armor.
The war didn't last long. The people fired all of their sorrows away.
