Total Rebalance III - Rome Rebundled - Realism Rebalance Patch (WIP)

(May be subject to change)

A new re-balance patch made for Total Rebalance III - Rome Rebundled for more realistic and intense battles.
  • Expect archers, slingers, skirmishers and pila throwing units to do significantly more damage, especially from the sides and back.
  • Expect spear wielding units to be more effective at hold a line
  • Expect sword wieling units to be stronger against armoured opponents, especially from the rear and sides.
  • Expect axe wielding units to be extremely strong at the cost of survivability
  • Expect a phalanx formation to be more strong from the front but expectionally bad from the sides and rear
  • All dedicated swordsmen now have armour piercing weapons, which mean that in the long run they will kill skirmishers and spearmen.
  • All spear wielding units that cannot form a phalanx have exceptionally good defense (parrying) capabilities.

Additional change:
  • Cataphract units now take three turns to recruit.

Tips:
Since this mod enhances a lot of unit statistics, the following tips apply even more so than usual:
  • Some units are better suited for offense and defense against other type of units.
  • Consider using spearmen to hold the front line and swordsmen for flanking. Spearman will hold the line but don't expect them to survive indefinitely.
  • Never attack a phalanx unit from the front! They will make short work of anything in front!
  • Protect your phalanx units from the sides and rear! They will die easily!
  • Do not use phalanx units outside of the phalanx formation, they weren't trained for that.
  • Make sure to never expose your back and rear towards projectile throwing units, you will lose many units if you do.
  • Axe / falx wielding units are good at dealing with armored opponents, but will lose against a large group of unarmoured lunits.
  • Note that axe / falx wielding units can make a quick dent in armoured opponents whilst sacrificing themselves, while spearmen can hold a regular enemy unit engaged for longer.
Some troops tire more easily (armoured units) and die quicker (axe / falx wielding units) than other troops.
Pick therefore your types of units to fight other units carefully based on your tactical needs.

HI there JrmKenny,

Thanks for your feedback.

Can you let me know what the specifc error message is, or otherwise what the specifc unit is that lets your game crash?
Is it the Egyptian Bowman or Numidian Archer, or another unit?
Does this happen during the campaign, can you reproduce this in a custom battle using that unit?
If during the campaign, which faction are you playing as?
Did you start a new campaign when using this mod?
Are you running any other mods besides this mod? (Aside from Total Rebalance III - Rome Rebundled)

So far I tried loading a custom battle with the Egyptian Bowmen and Numidian Archers, but so far everything loads fine.
Please let me know about the details so I can look more into it!

This sounds great. Every unit has their uses. Spears better defense, swords offence, axes more damage but weaker defense, ranged do more damage.
