Mission Overview

Commander,

Soviet naval forces are executing a large-scale submarine breakout through the GIUK Gap, with the goal of reaching the North Atlantic. Their mission is clear: disrupt NATO’s vital transatlantic supply lines and challenge our control over the Atlantic.

This wave of submarines includes some of the Soviet Navy’s most advanced vessels, and they must be stopped before they can reach open waters.

This is Operation Atlantic Shield, and you are tasked with leading the defense. You have a maximum of 6 hours to locate and eliminate as many Soviet submarines as possible before they break through into the Atlantic.

Intelligence reports confirm that several Soviet submarines, including Charlie-class SSGNs, Victor-class submarines, and even an Alfa-class fast attack submarine, are moving through the gap. Failure to contain them will severely compromise NATO's strategic position in the North Atlantic.

Mission Objectives:
- Intercept and destroy Soviet submarines attempting to break through into the Atlantic.

- Deploy your assets effectively across the three critical engagement zones.

- Defend NATO’s surface assets from potential Soviet retaliation.

- Use your air support and submarine forces to aggressively hunt and neutralize Soviet subs.

Operational Considerations:

- Time is your greatest enemy. You have only 6 hours to neutralize as many Soviet submarines as possible. The longer the submarines remain undetected, the closer they will be to reaching the Atlantic.

- Soviet Air Support: The Tu-142 ASW aircraft patrolling near Iceland and Greenland can locate your submarines from the air. Use your P-3 Orion to counter this threat and provide additional intelligence.

- Stealth and Detection: Maximize your use of passive sonar to avoid detection, especially when engaging Soviet submarines with advanced capabilities like the Alfa-class.

- Surface Defense: Your Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate in the UK zone is a critical asset for detecting and eliminating Soviet subs. Protect this ship at all costs, but leverage its advanced systems for effective submarine hunting.
