VF-213 Temporary Camouflage F14A

Description
In 1987 the US Navy's Strike Fighter Squadron 213, known as the "Blacklions", began testing various camouflage patterns on their aircraft using water-soluble temporary paint. The purpose was to determine whether visual camouflage made enough of a difference in either IFF or speed of gaining visual contact on the aircraft in a variety of conditions naval aviation operates in. After testing several different patterns, they determined that the recently adopted All-over Grey "Low visibility" pattern was the most versatile but individual environments favored certain patterns over others.

This particular pattern features a black, geometric pattern reminiscent of tiger stripes across the sides and upper surfaces of the aircraft. It is painted over existing insignia as it was a temporary measure for testing and never intended to be used long term. Includes (painted over) national and VF213 insignia where applicable.

Really cool and weird deep cut of a livery, I didn't know about these camo tests, really interesting.
