Description
Ever wish you could have some variety with your battle drones? Now you can!

Guardians DLC and SAD_CommonLib mod required!

This mod will allow you to deploy improved/varied types of battle drones to assist with your base's automated defenses.

Note, however, that this comes at a cost. These require additional research with additional prerequisites, higher costs to build and repair, and also more power to run to keep them balanced.

Pulse cannon drones were deliberately left out as they're already pretty OP in the game as is.

These new drones are available under a new sub-menu in Defense.

If you have any suggestions on how to resolve the items in the To Do list, or have feedback on bugs or balance, please post them in the comments!

Battle Drone 2.0:
  • Double the damage and range of vanilla
  • 250 HP
  • 20 power consumption
  • Prerequisites - Battle Drones and Improved Laser Pistols research

Sniper Drone:
  • Same damage (30 normal/50 crit, 50 against robots) and range (40m) as a vanilla sniper weapon.
  • 100 HP
  • Slower fire (every 10 seconds)
  • Cannot fire within 10m
  • Slightly slower drone speed (7 vs 8)
  • 20 power consumption
  • Prerequisites - Battle Drones and Railgun Snipers

Sniper Drone 2.0:
  • Same damage (30 normal/50 crit, 75 against robots) as Sniper 2.0 weapon. Slightly increased range to 60m, weapon is 50m
  • 125 HP
  • Slower fire (every 7 seconds)
  • Cannot fire within 10m
  • Slightly slower drone speed (7 vs 8)
  • 25 power consumption
  • Prerequisites - Battle Drones and Improved Railgun Snipers

Laser Drone:
(FX ARE CURRENTLY BUGGED - Work in Progress)
  • Same damage as a laser turret (5 per second).
  • 150 HP
  • Slightly reduced range at 25m instead of 35m
  • 35 power consumption
  • Prerequisites - Battle Drones and Automated Turrets

Missile Drone:
  • Same damage as a missile turret
  • 150 HP
  • 4m AOE effect, will knockback enemies
  • 30m range, 10m minimum range (gotta keep it from blowing itself up)
  • Causes friendly fire, so be careful not to blow up your survivors!
  • 20 power consumption
  • Prerequisites - Battle Drones and Automated Turrets

Tank Drone:
  • Fires a minigun that does only 2 damage (1 to robots), but fires extremely fast
  • 1000 HP
  • Short range at 15m
  • Slower speed at 6
  • 20 power consumption
  • Prerequisites - Battle Drones and Automated Turrets

To Do:
  • Fix Laser Drone FX. For some reason, the game handles these different than other weapon objects. (May not be possible without function added to SAD_CommonLib).
  • Mod is otherwise complete.

In case you were wondering why the drones suddenly got a whole lot cheaper and didn't require metal, on my last update there was an accidental cross-pollination where the OET - Resource Integration mod applied those values to the default recipe which replace metal with steel and nanotube steel.

That's now been fixed.

Alright, saw the Jan 2 update, so let's test it. Loaded up the in-game Mod Editor, use the cheat for all technologies, and... Victory! Battle Drone Station now shows up in the Drones of War category, as well as all the actual mod-added Drones of War.

And I also checked an older save that I know didn't have the Drone 1.0 showing as build-able, and it's there too. So this is friendly to older saves.

I think the issue is that PNG is capitalized on the image file name, which is apparently a quirk with the mod editor that can cause inconsistent behavior. I'll convert it to lowercase and see if that helps with the error. The image is definitely there and attached though.

That said, it won't have an affect on the 1.0 drones from appearing. That's just the image used for the mod itself, i.e. the one you see on this page.

Did you open the mod in Mod Editor? If so, it will download a local copy of it, and that needs to be deleted before you unsub/resub to refresh the mod as it will keep that one even if updates are made.

I'm in the process of doing a Guardian's playthrough to replicate the 1.0 drone not showing, which should be done today.

And after unsubbing and resubbing to this mod, I still have the same error message in Game Log.

Huh. I forgot I could do a quick test in Mod Editor mode. When I go to that mode, with my current mod list, and hit research all, the Drones of War category says "This Category contains the following devices" and the normal Battle drones are missing from that list. So if you and I are having different outcomes from the same test, you likely won't be able to replicate the issue.

Oh that's odd. in Mod Editor mode, I went to File>Game Log, and while browsing through it, I noticed an error message.

Interesting. Basically all I did was change it to show in that submenu, no other changes to unlocks or anything like that. In Mod Manager, when unlocking everything, it shows fine.

I'm doing a new playthrough and will see if I can replicate it, and adjust accordingly. If I can't fix it, I'll plop it back to it's vanilla setting.

I had a recently started save also have an issue with Battle Drone 1.0 not showing up as a build option in the Drones of War submenu. What's odd is, I had a different save from before that I clearly remember having Battle Drone 1.0 show up in the correct submenu. But I don't recall if that save was prior to the December 12th update to this mod.
