Yenns' US Forces Authenticity Overhaul

Description
A Focus on Historical Accuracy
Yenns' USFAO is a project that seeks to put historical accuracy at the front and center of Gates of Hell’s US Forces in the Liberation and Airborne campaigns, as well as its multiplayer and conquest counterparts.

This mod aims to overhaul the visual appearance of American units and fix many of the historical inaccuracies that appear with their equipment and vehicles in the single player campaigns. Although the primary focus is on the campaigns, the majority of these changes will apply to your multiplayer and conquest too. Full implementation is still a WIP but everything still functions as-is. An update for MP and Conquest will be coming very soon!

With too many individual changes to list one by one in the description, I encourage you to check out this document[docs.google.com] for a more comprehensive list of changes. Thank you!

Uniforms and Uniform Variety

One of the most impactful changes this mod makes is that units now use several different uniforms that correspond with how and when they appeared in reality. In the campaign especially, you'll see GIs with different field jackets, fatigues, shirts and trousers, sweaters, overcoats, boots, helmets, and more as their appearance varies from unit to unit and battle to battle. Airborne uniforms are now more particular to each unit, just as they were in reality, and new invasion armbands and gauze flags can be found in missions where appropriate. Also worth noting is the removal of the modern-looking facial hairs, making GIs appear much more authentic even at a personal level!

Some highlights include new HBT uniforms and paratroopers now using their correct M43 uniforms for Operation Market Garden battles, as well as stand-in British humanskins to crew tanks and universal carriers until the official British Commonwealth DLC launch. These British units are simply reskinned American ones at the moment, thanks to RG2142 importing these skins, but are still a WIP in becoming their own unique breeds with proper voicelines.

Equipment Changes

Just like with the uniforms, the equipment soldiers carry has been tweaked to be much more varied and historically accurate. A few examples include that the incorrect 3-cell magazine pouches have been deleted, Airborne helmet PFAKs have been removed, and officers now wear musette bags instead of haversacks. Additionally, D-Day assault equipment like the assault jacket, rubberized gasmask bag, and gas brassard now make an appearance with the Rangers on Pointe du Hoc.

Another major feature is that 101st Airborne units now use the correct helmet markings for every mission. Helmets for 501st, 502nd, and 506th Parachute Infantry Regiments appear in their respective missions, as well as helmets of the 327th Glider Infantry Regiment.

A handful of weapons have been introduced to further enhance the historical accuracy of a few missions, primarily British small arms to act as a stand-in until the official commonwealth DLC is launched. A few historical errors on pre-existing weapons have been fixed, such as the M1 Carbine having its bayonet lug removed!

New Units and Unit Changes

Several new units have been added to further enhance the historical accuracy of most missions. These include the US 4th, 90th, 83rd, and 104th Infantry Divisions, as well as a few smaller units such as the 41st Armored Infantry Regiment and African-American 969th Field Artillery Battalion. Many basegame units have also received some changes, especially medics, tank crews, and artillerymen, all of which add up into providing a much immersive visuals. These units are currently not implemented into Conquest/MP, but will be added very soon in a future update!

Mission Changes

Every Liberation and Airborne campaign mission has been changed to provide a more historically accurate and immersive experience. Although I’ve tried to keep the balance/difficulty as close to the original as possible, some missions may be slightly easier or more difficult due to these changes. Once again, I highly recommend you take a look at this document[docs.google.com] for a quick description of each mission!

A NOTE ON SKIRMISHES: although I’ve done everything I can to maintain historical accuracy in the campaign missions, skirmishes still allow you to purchase out-of-place infantry units such as airborne, rangers, and first special service force even when they do not fit the setting. For these situations, it’s up to you to decide how historical you wanna be! I recommend sticking to the standard units that I’ve themed around each mission, but the option to use more specialized squads remains.

Feedback

With a project this big, it has been difficult to test everything on my own, so let me know if you come across any issues and I’ll do my best to respond ASAP. Likewise, if you have any feedback or suggestions, feel free to comment below– all input is appreciated.

This project is still a work in progress, so thank you for checking it out and I hope you enjoy!

Man this mod is awesome, i have a little request, there was this mod that added the nco and officer stripes and rank insignias to the tank crew officers and nco's helmets, it'd be amazing that you could do this, since the original mod is no longer available.
