Introduction

This is a purely technical mod. By adding noble titles with high precedence (handled by game engine as not important precedence) and background colors, you can use them to distinguish dwarves. The colors can be used for:
  • Creating squads where dwarves' name background colors match their squad color
  • Assigning exclusive roles to dwarves, such as performers, scholars, doctors, etc. You may want to assign a specific color to specify the dwarf is already assigned to a job.
  • Making it easier to locate favorite dwarves in lists
  • Assigning own font colors (overwriting default ones) for basic jobs, such as miners, woodcutters, etc.

In-game, this can be imagined as dwarves wearing emblems, sashes, or bands on their clothes.

Design Choices, Game Limitations, and Issues

  • Position names is represented by pair of font color; background color. Consider renaming that after assigment.
  • Background colors are limited to 7 values (see DF wiki[dwarffortresswiki.org])
  • Higher-priority (lower precedence) noble titles will overwrite colors added by this mod. Giving higher precedence would result in dwarves demanding or feeling jealous over better bedrooms if tied to a specific role.
  • To avoid overwhelming options, font colors are limited to black and white. Or all with black backgrounds.
  • Once created/assigned, roles do not disappear. However, they can be left vacant or reassigned to another dwarf.

Planned Features

None at the moment, but I'm always open to suggestions.
If you need lower-precedence (higher importance) colored titles, please let me know.
