Description
Captain,

NATO intelligence has confirmed the presence of a Soviet radar installation in the Lofoten Islands that is capable of tracking our naval movements in the Norwegian Sea. Your mission is to deploy special forces from the USS Tarawa to the island and retake the radar installation. Due to weather it is not possible to deploy them by helicopter. The Tarawa will have to use landing boats.

The Tarawa will lead a surface action group tasked with escorting the assault ship through dangerous waters. Soviet surface ships, submarines, and air forces are actively patrolling the region, and intelligence suggests the presence of submarines in the area, posing a serious threat to the Tarawa.

==========================

Your Objectives:

- Escort the USS Tarawa to the deployment zone near the Lofoten Islands.

- Deploy the Marine strike team to secure and neutralize the Soviet radar installation.

- Defend the Tarawa and the fleet from Soviet air and naval forces during the operation.

==========================

Intelligence Reports:

- Soviet Naval Forces: Expect Soviet surface vessels, including Kashin-class destroyers and Krivak-class frigates, to intercept the Tarawa and its fleet. They will attempt to prevent the landing of the Marine strike team.

- Submarine Threat: Soviet Victor-class submarines are believed to be patrolling the waters near the Lofoten Islands. Keep your ASW (Anti-Submarine Warfare) assets on high alert.

- Air Threat: Soviet bombers may attempt airstrikes against the fleet. Be prepared to deploy anti-aircraft defenses and call in fighter support from NATO airbases in Norway.

Weather Conditions: The seas are rough, and visibility is moderate due to light fog. This will impact radar effectiveness but can also provide cover for your approach.

==========================

Assets Available:

- USS Tarawa (LHA-1) (Flagship): Amphibious assault ship capable of deploying helicopters, Harriers, and Marines.

- Ticonderoga-class Cruiser (Air Defense): Provides air cover and long-range missile engagement against enemy ships and aircraft.

- Perry-class Frigate (ASW and Escort): Fast, multi-role frigate designed for convoy protection and submarine hunting.

- Land-based air units stationed in Norway are on standby for air support, should Soviet air forces engage.

==========================

Operational Considerations:

- Timing is Critical: You must deploy the Marines and destroy the radar installation quickly. Prolonging the operation increases the risk of a Soviet counterattack from both sea and air.

- ASW Threat: The Victor-class submarines will be difficult to detect in the rough seas. Your frigates must maintain constant sonar sweeps, and your ASW helicopters should be ready to launch at a moment’s notice.

- Air Defense: Soviet air assets will likely attempt to neutralize the Tarawa once detected. Use the Ticonderoga-class cruiser’s long-range SAM systems to defend against airstrikes.

==========================

Rules of Engagement:

Engage Soviet forces as necessary to protect the fleet and ensure the success of the mission. Minimize collateral damage and avoid civilian shipping lanes.

I had the same problem Stoinker had... Tarawa hit by a stealth torpedo from behind. I couldnt find it even with my sub and more than 4 buoys

Oh man.equipped every air asset possible with sonar buoys and searched for over an for that second sub before quitting. It got my sub, my landing ship and frigate. First, it flanked my sub and then had to have moved at least 70km before shooting my escort head on (from the landing zone) . I plastered everything with buoys and random torpedos but couldnt find it. Even the surface ships were kind of hard for me (their CIWS intercepted every harpoon/AGM/Penguin I shot at them. Had to drop multiple bombs ontop of them). Only the first sub was kind of easy for me but Im also a noob and probably got lucky.
Overall, it was alot of flying between the Ships/air base and the AO, alot of slow driving and then 15 minutes of getting absolutelydestroyed by torpedos that out appear 2nm in front of you. I dont know if the AI is capable of steering torpedos in deceptive ways or what was going on here.
But it was still great fun and I will try again!

Man, cleared everything, plastered the entire area from the fleet to the landing zone with sonar bouys. No sub. Then the Tarawa randomly got hit by a Torpedo from behind.
Then I spend half an hour trying to find that sub and then I dropped like a total of 20 torpedos at it... it evaded them all, but one. But it didn't even care for beeing hit and just kept on going, evading every torpedo... My Tarawa crawling at 5kts... Then I Alt-F4'd
I know it's problebly not the scenarious fault, but wtf is up with invincible subs????

if you take too long the get to the AO the subs waiting for you there will raise snorkels to recharge. thats how i found them

am i the only one that didnt really have all that much problems finding the subs? i admit i was surprised by the sub by the stranded merchant but i still found it. i have to say tho i must have dropped nearly enough buoys for the marries to walk to the shore without getting their socks wet.

Radar is friendly!

Well, I made it there, but the flight deck is rekt. I was only able to detect a sub and sink it but not before it pretty much mission killed the carrier. A later sub attack sunk the Ticonderoga. Very tough time finding the subs despite a boatload of buoys and my sub and asw frigate.

I assume i couldn't complete it because the flight deck was out?

Yeah I just lost the landing ship to subs. I had 4 ASW choppers and 2 P-3s flying low using magnetic anomaly detectors and dropping buoys and I couldn't find them. I even clacked off torpedoes in random directions and got no hits. My sub couldn't find them either, alternated between low speeds and high to see if I could hear them.
