B-23 Requiem Strategic Bomber

Description
Welcome to the 9th!

Forged in the new age of strategic bombing, the B-23 Requiem was designed chiefly to outpace enemy air defense forces, and deliver a lethal payload of high explosives upon the enemy's factories, armies, and populace. The Requiem was designed around it's monstrous 32-Liter radial engines, built to propel it beyond the flight ceiling and range of even the most hardy enemy interceptors, bringing destruction across the seas at over 40000ft. Even when ambushed, the Requiem was built to hold it's ground with robust, redundant systems and a healthy dose of good ol' American .50 Caliber, 8 guns total, to ward of all but the most heady of enemy pilots.

```
Startup Procedure
  • Move all 4 Engine Mode Levers in Cockpit to NORM
  • Move all 4 Magneto Levers on Engineer Panel to ON
  • Feather All Props on Engineer Panel
  • Press and Hold each starter Button until the corresponding Engine reaches 0.4 on the tachometer
  • Turn off all 4 feathering levers
  • Remove Parking Brake
  • Taxi to Runway
  • Apply Full Power
  • Take off at 120kts
Crew and Stations
The Aircraft is divided into four basic compartments, the Nose, the Fore-section, the Bomb Bay, and Gunnery. A Crew of 8 operates five turrets, an engineer's panel, flight controls, a bombardier's station, navigation and repairs. The crew works together to make sure firstly that their own station is operating at peak efficiency, while also assisting their comrades with repairs and operations when called upon.
Nose
The Nose contains two stations, the Navigator, who charts a course to the target and back, and the Bombardier/Nose Gunner, who aims and drops bombs, as well as defends the plane from head on attacks.
  • Paste a waypoint into the keypad at the navigator station, then read course to that target above
  • The Bombardier can make use of the front turret by pressing 1 and using mouse aim
  • Bombs must be armed in the Bomb-Bay before dropping, using all four arming keys
  • Bomb sight is opened by foot-pedal shutter by bombardier
  • To drop bombs, first arm them, then open bay doors, then select ordinance groups as desired before pressing the
    BOMB RELEASE lever on the bomb sight pedestal.
Fore-Section
The 'flight compartment' contains perhaps the two most vital stations on the aircraft, those of the Pilot and Flight Engineer. The Pilot controls the aircraft and crew, maintaining discipline through the heaviest enemy assaults, while the flight engineer serves the four massive engines as well as the fuel, hydraulic, electrical and oxygen systems.
  • Flight Engineer has individual engine throttles and controls
  • Fuel can be cross connected using keys on engineer's panel
  • Autopilot is vital to keep aircraft on course, ascend to cruising alt, then turn on alt hold and heading hold before
    adjusting to target
  • Pilot has control over lights, brakes, landing gear and crew evacuation alarm
  • Flight Engineer should maintain constant vigilance over all systems, checking in with crew every few mins
  • Emergency Escape hatch next to pilot seat, use key to operate
Bomb Bay
Within the Bomb Bay rests the single most important pieces of mission-critical hardware on board, the ordinance.
  • There are Four Arming Keys on the central Walkway, they must ALL be activated for Bombs to drop
  • Manual closing gear should be left for emergencies
  • Mind the Gap?
Gunnery
In this compartment, a total of six .50 Caliber Machine guns and one .45 pistol are utilized to ward off enemy attacks from all angles. Turrets include: Dorsal turret, two waist guns and a tail turret, each sporting one or two .50 caliber machine guns.
  • Main Entrance hatches located forwards on either side
  • All Turrets are Activated using 1 from their Control Handles
  • All Turrets Require infinite Ammo to use properly
  • Emergency Gear Controls are under the locked hatch in the floor
  • Kill Counter is mounted on the wall by the main hatches
  • Top turret handle is adjustable
    Systems and Damage Control
    Hello, Note from the author, I personally think that these systems are some of the best parts of this plane, and they took multiple months to work out and implement. All of them are designed to make taking damage much more interesting and complex. I hope you will take a moment to skim these notes briefly, otherwise some of these things will be confusing.
    Hydraulics
    • All hydraulics are modeled as green tanks in the fuselage
    • Repair the constant on near them to fix hydraulics
    • Pressure gauges accurately reflect operation
    • Engineer has a pressure gauge for all systems, monitor these closely
    • Control surfaces some authority when pressure is lost due to having to be moved manually
    • All control surfaces are still usable with 0 hydraulics, so the aircraft is flyable
    • Bomb Doors and Landing Gear will become inoperable if Hydraulics are lost
    • Engine pumps are lost if the corresponding engine shuts down or burns out
    • Bomb bay doors and landing gear can be manually cranked into position
    • Landing Gear cranks are found in hatch below gunnery compartment, activate the keys then turn until lights
      illuminate
    • Bomb Bay cranks on central walkway, these can only close the doors, turn the keys then crank until closed
    • Bombardier has a BOMB DOOR FAULT light on their left panel, which turns on if bomb doors are inoperable
    Oxygen
    • The Oxygen system controls heaters around the plane, the loss of which disallow high altitude combat
    • Oxygen is highly flammable, take care of any O2 fires IMMEDIATELY
    • The oxygen system gets hit the least, but is one of the most important, so take care to maintain it
    Engines
    • Fuel cutoffs, Fire levers and Feathering levers are all controlled by the engineer
    • Engines should be run at 0.8-0.9 throttle for optimum cooling, although 1.0 won't overheat
    • When an engine catches fire, shut down the fuel and oil, then pull the fire lever at the top of the E-Panel
    • When an engine loses power, shut it down before moving to repair it, then restart afterwards
    • Engine access panels are available for all engines, be sure to shut them when repairs are complete
    • The Requiem can 'fly' on two engines so long as both are not on the same side, and can glide well on one engine
    • Flight engineer should adjust throttles of other engines when one is lost to compensate
    • Use engineer rudder trim to counteract turning force from loss of an engine
    • Consider feathering an opposite engine to quickly counteract a spin
    Fuel
    • Fuel cutoffs are all controlled by the engineer
    • Fuel is contained in four separate tanks, each of which feeds an engine.
    • Tanks on either side can be connected in case of leaks or destruction by enemy fire
    • Most times when an engine dies, it is due to fuel starvation, cross connect the tanks and restart the engine
    • Monitor fuel pressure and quantity constantly, sudden jumps may indicate leaks or damage
    • Refueling can be done from below the wing
Hello Again! Thanks so much for both the support and the feedback on this project! If we've seemed a little inattentive recently, sorry about that, but its because we've another big project in the works, which should be "taking off" this weekend. We're super excited to share our newest development, so look forwards to it! Until then, good luck, and happy hunting. :)
Very nice plane but for some reason the bombay explodes when dropping all bombs at the same time
Theres an issue I've found where engine 4 randomly shuts off, idk why but you can just restart the engine just fine.
