Operation Praying Mantis

Description
Get Proportional with the Iranian Navy.

Most ships are accurate to history. The Uss Enterprise is replaced with the Nimitz but almost all other ships are their actual real life counterparts. This scenario is SUPER easy since well... it kinda was IRL too.

HISTORY:

Operation Praying Mantis took place on April 18, 1988, as a response by the United States to Iranian aggression during the Iran-Iraq War, particularly Iran’s use of naval mines in the Persian Gulf. The operation was triggered after the USS Samuel B. Roberts, a U.S. Navy frigate, struck an Iranian mine, causing significant damage and injuring crew members.

The U.S. aimed to send a strong message to deter further Iranian attacks on international shipping and U.S. assets in the region. In response, the U.S. Navy launched a coordinated operation targeting Iranian oil platforms and naval vessels, which were being used as military staging points for attacks on Gulf shipping. The operation demonstrated the U.S. commitment to maintaining freedom of navigation in the Gulf and served as a powerful show of force, marking one of the largest U.S. naval engagements since World War II.

BRIEFING:

Date: 18 April 1988
Command Issued By: NATO HIGH COMMAND
Recipient: COMMANDING OFFICER
Operation Name: OPERATION PRAYING MANTIS

Primary Objective:
NEUTRALIZE IRANIAN NAVAL THREATS IN THE PERSIAN GULF TO ENSURE SAFE PASSAGE FOR ALLIED AND CIVILIAN VESSELS. A PROPORTIONAL RESPONSE IS EXPECTED TO MAINTAIN CONTROL WITHOUT ESCALATING CONFLICT.

Operational Tasks:

Neutralize Oil Rigs: Identify and eliminate hostile fortified oil platforms being used as military staging points or firing positions. Use a proportional response to ensure threats are neutralized without unnecessary escalation.
Locate and Engage Iranian Frigates: Deploy air and sea assets to locate Iranian frigates in the area, ensuring their neutralization if they pose a direct threat. Apply a proportional response when engaging frigates to avoid broadening the conflict.

Important Operational Details:
Intelligence indicates fortified oil platforms and patrolling Iranian frigates may engage if threatened. Exercise restraint and ensure any actions taken are consistent with a proportional response to the immediate threat.

Rules of Engagement:
Engage only confirmed hostile platforms and vessels with a proportional response to minimize civilian impact. Precise, measured action is authorized upon confirmed hostile activity.

Intel Alert: Reports indicate potential presence of hostile aircraft in the vicinity—maintain air readiness and stay alert for appropriate, proportional responses as needed.

I was on the Enterprise for this. Was a Hangar deck jet engine mechanic ( AIMD ) We had a C.O.D. on deck with an engine for one of our EA6B's. They were trying to arrange to bring the C.O.D. down to the Hangar deck so we could remove and get it ready for the Alpha Strike in the morning. But were having trouble moving planes around and getting it to an Elevator, while conducting preliminary flight ops..Finally I said let's just go up and get it? None of us were flight deck qualified, but they let us do it. We got it out and "Qued" up to give to the Squadron and watch them launch in the morning.......

I have that and many other patches.......

Thank you!

Looks like you beat me to it. I have a mission like this in the works, but I was gonna wait until they came out with a better explanation of triggers in the mission editor. Oh well. Nice job.

You have a very nice History, Briefing, and Operational Tasks write-up here it would be great if they were included in the mission itself.
