In 1 collection by DarkRaven
Realistic Optics
4 items
Description
Edits the binocular sight more realistic. Based on the Zeiss 8x60 U-Boot Kommandantenglas "Fat one".

Features:
  • A ~9.1 degree FOV
  • 8x zoom
  • Cleanly uninstalls
  • Savegame compatible

Compatible for versions 2025.1. May be incompatible with previous versions.

Works and overrides the magnification settings for Extened and Realistic Periscope modes.

Note: Due to the binocular's remarkable field of view for its magnification, an UWD display will be needed to see the complete sight.

@Amenthes I sort of disagree with that. IRL you'd have a rough feeling of the direction that you'd be looking just from your body's senses. Like if you turned 90 degrees, even with your eyes closed, you'd know it was about 90 degrees as opposed to 30 or 120. You don't have those senses in-game and the bearing markers without a specified line indicating center is a decent approximation IMO. Maybe still a bit too specfic, but you work with what you got.

for better realistic exp mb need to remove bearing marks on top

Yeah this checks out. 9.14° FOV at 8x magnification, these must have been really nice to look through!

Here's a trick to see how well your computer monitor would work to simulate a binocular you own: look through the lens of the binos with one eye, and look directly with the other at your monitor. Even unfocused, you should see the outline circle of the FOV, and how much of it your PC screen covers.

This has some more complicated programming issues needed to fix it than my other optics mods, so I'm putting it last on my 2025.1 to fix list. Hopefully it will only be a few days.

Hi DarkRaven it Looks like 2025.1 update has borked this mod. It will need to be updated unfortunately

I can't find my original source, which IIRC was a forum post. Fernglasmuseum has a page saying the FOV is 8.9 degrees, but then immediately says it is 160m/1000m which is 9.1 degrees.

Where do you get that the FOV is 9.1°? That's even wider than the UZO, which is 7x magnification.
Is it time for me to get a new monitor, I wonder?

Ok, thx

You can use it with a normal display, it will appear as per the screenshot on a 16:9 display. It's not the full field of view, which you need a UWD display to get.

So, with a normal screen i cant use this mod?
