Loetschberg-Simplon Map

Description
A large map inspired by Switzerland’s Bernese Oberland and Rhône Valley.

This map challenges you to connect three distinct regions separated by the mighty Alps.

In the north, you’ll find the beautiful lakes of Thun and Brienz, with the large city of Thun serving as a central hub. Across the mountains lies the Rhône Valley, surrounded by stunning peaks and home to the famous Aletsch Glacier. To the south, across the Italian border, lies the city of Domodossola. This map features 32 cities and numerous industries, some of which may be located in remote areas.

Connecting these regions will require substantial funding for tunnels, but creative solutions may also be possible—it’s up to you!

While I’ve meticulously detailed the map by hand, I want you to shape it further and customize its final appearance. Therefore, I’ve refrained from placing many buildings or additional assets, aside from natural elements.

Though the map is based on detailed topographic information, I’ve adjusted some terrain features for gameplay reasons, mainly to make it easier for cities to grow.

Only water textures are required as a mod, but the map looks significantly better with a mod that increases render distance or with UnixRoot’s beautiful Natural Environment mod.

All screenshots and videos were created using UnixRoot’s Natural Environment mod, without modified vanilla textures.

Hope you enjoy!

@PzSniper I never create meglomaniac maps, since they become unplayable for most Players in late stage Game.

Great map BUT the size imho limit its potential, too small. so 7/10

Great map! It was a real challenge crossing the mountains, and the industry and cargo placement is really well balanced

you need to enable larger maps:
If you open up the game and go to the settings from the main menu and select the Advanced tab, there should be a button at the bottom of that section that is labeled "open userdata". Click on that and in the new window that opens select and open the settings file. In that file, on line 21 it says "experimentalmapsize = false,". Change the false to true and save the file. This will unlock 2 larger size maps called "huge" and "megalomaniac" as well as one smaller size map called "tiny". I think it also unlocks map ratios above 1:3.

You may need to restart the game for the change to take affect.
