The Soviet Union is collapsing - violently. A committee of hardliners has assassinated President Gorbachev and taken the reins of state power in Moscow. They intend to hold onto power by any means necessary, but the country is dissolving around them. The former Vice President, Nikolai Ryzhkov, has been evacuated from Arkhangelsk on board the guided missile cruiser Kirov, which is now fleeing north. He represents one of the few hopes for stability to return to Russia and is an ideal candidate to head a hopeful future democratic Russian government.

The USN's Task Force 52 is currently operating in the Barents Sea and has been scrambled to rendezvous with and provide escort to Kirov. You are given command of TF 52, Kirov, and several other US assets within range of the area of operations. The Kirov must be seen to safety at all costs.
