Compatibility Note!
This version of this addon modifies entities in ep1_citadel_00, which means it could potentially conflict with other addons!
I've never seen another addon that modifies this map, but it is possible. If you find that the Vortigaunts in the into of Episode 1 are green, or that some other addon that's supposed to affect this map isn't working, please install the original GameBanana release[gamebanana.com] instead.



Don't you think the Vortigaunts from HL2 & Episode 1's release versions were so much better? Honestly, I don't, but whether I think they're better or not, they're something that I want to see preserved and that I want people to have the option to fully utilize, and that's why I did this port back in 2020.

When Half-Life 2 was updated with Workshop support, this is the first addon I started working on uploading, but... well, the way the workshop works is pretty different from how custom folders do. You see, in the original release, I worked around the fact that EP1 and EP2 have totally different 'vortigaunt_blue.mdl' models by simply having a second VPK to install to EP2's custom folder. On the workshop, however, it's one content folder for all the games. A little bit of a compatibility nightmare. And it wasn't helped by the fact that I have a hard drive going out and I'm using an unfamiliar operating system.

So, anyway, it took about a week, but I managed to get it totally working by replacing the model and texture names in the intro map's entity lump.

Nope, only things that modify the map or vortigaunt models will conflict. Any other model replacements are fine.

I have an Alyx replacer it modifies her alyx_intro.mdl (correct me if I am wrong) will it conflict?

@Paynamia ouuu im glad u liked the mod i made! i mostly got inspired by twotime's mod n noticed his mod lacked the other 2004 textures n decided to make a more complete version, i even got some assistance from the guy with baking the textures

Thanks! Though, this wasn't that bad. It's actually more along the lines of what I originally intended, but I didn't do it like this because I was worried about compatibility issues. In hindsight, people installing the old-style wrong (like that one person in the comments of your addon (which I love btw)) is way more of an issue than something being incompatible.

glad to finally see this mod on the workshop! one of my favs when i got started with installing mods for the game. i really hope eventually valve adds a way to make compatibility with mods easier to set up since they literally made it so you can set which version of hl2 to use in a custom campaign/map and i dont see why they cant do that for other types of mods
