If you wish to have these portraits assigned to randomly generated NPCs, you can follow the suggestion in last post and switch the positions of "f" and "m" in the portrait file names (e.g., change c_donwon_f-10.png to c_f-donwon-10.png) to achieve this.
However, if you're like me and feel that these portraits aren't suitable for use with random NPCs, you can rename all the "c" prefixes in the portrait file names to "special" (e.g., change c_donwon_f-10.png to special_f-donwon-10.png) to completely prevent any randomly generated NPCs from using these portraits.
The same applies in the reverse case.
