Indonesian Heat, 1965

Description
Summary

Command Soviet Operational Squadron 8 (OS-8) in an attempt to locate and destroy an American amphibious landing force.

Briefing
Background
Four weeks ago, a military coup occurred in Indonesia- this coup wiped out leaders of the Pro-American faction of the Indonesian Military and secured control of the country for the Communist Party of Indonesia, the PKI. In an effort to secure support in the region, First Secretary Brezhnev has dispatched elements of the 8th Operational Squadron to protect our comrades in Jakarta. In a brazen demonstration of imperialist arrogance, the US has scraped together an occupation force to 'restore order' in Indonesia. There are reports that elements of Seventh Fleet have already destroyed the Indonesian fleet in Surabaya, including the Sverdlov-class KRI Irian.

Objectives
Locate and intercept the American landing force, TF-70.

Friendly Forces
Admiral Zozulya, Kresta Class Missile Cruiser
Steregushchiy, Kashin Class Destroyer
Upornyy, Kanin Class Destroyer
Gordyy , Kanin Class Destroyer
SKR-128, Petya II Class Frigate
SKR-103, Petya II Class Frigate

Hostile Forces
The American force is expected to be relatively small, composed of elements spared from the US Seventh Fleet. The force is likely composed of Gearing-class destroyers and a handful of landing support ships.

Fun mission! Like a lot of Sea Power missions, the balance is...precarious? Circumstances early in the mission will rapidly cascade into almost-certain wins for one side or the other. But I've played it more than once and had the house of cards collapse both ways, which I think is a good sign!

It will help if you know the limitations of the SS-N-3s on the Kresta better than I did going in: it seems like they'll only launch initially at one target. If you try to ripple them off at multiple contacts, the launches will be too-staggered to overcome the American TF's defenses. As always, moar missiles gives you a better result.
