Spanish Civil War: Vanilla +

Description
The Spanish Civil War remains one of the most interesting conflicts in human history and had repercussions beyond the Iberian Peninsula. Paradox has done a fantastic job bringing it to life in the 'La Resistance' DLC.

Nevertheless, I believe it could have more events and flavour for the benefit of those interested in the history.

What This Mod Does

This mod aims to improve upon the Vanilla experience without changing or overhauling the game (no new decisions, focus trees or buffs/extra troops for either side), keeping the game's original balance intact.

My mod does so by adding several plain cosmetic events to the Spanish Civil War of the vanilla game, making the conflict both more interesting and more playable, both for Republicans and Nationalists, but also for those participating by sending volunteer forces.

-Events notifying countries who have sent volunteers to the Republican or Nationalist side when an offensive has been prepared.
-Events for the takeover of Spain's major cities
-Flavour events for relevant nations both sending volunteers and for the outcome of the war

No longer should you be completely out of the loop of major events in the war if you have committed volunteer troops to the conflict. Without spamming the game with unnecessary news events, events on the opening of offensives against Spanish regions are sent to those participating on that side only.

-Many flavour events for Republicans and Nationalists (more to come):

It so far adds events for important historical occurrences currently missing in the game:
-opening introductory even giving an overview of Spain's political situation (please skip however if you want to get straight to business)
-Pre-war events showing the lead-up to the conflict
-Assassinations of Castillo and Sotelo.
-Dolores Ibarruri's No Pasaran speech
-Events surrounding the Guernica painting
-Spanish Revolution of 1936
-International Brigades (with and without focus)
-The Radio General
-Siege of the Alcazar
-Death of Lina Odena
-Death of General Mola (I would say this is only event where I have gone outside of my comfort zone by risking a substantial change to the balance. However, I feel this is justified as it is historically accurate. The event will only fire if you have pursued the focus path of 'Unite the Nationalist Front', leaving the Falangist path unaffected. I am actually surprised that they didn't have this in the original game, which leaves a large narrative hole)
-Events at Irun
-Foreign Journalists in the Republican Zone
-Franco's 1939 victory speech and other post-war events
-Vatican and Spanish Catholic Church events
-People's Olympiad in Barcelona
-Attempted Nationalist Takeover of Barcelona at beginning of war
-Republican peace overtures near end of war
-Law on Political Responsibilities
-Catalan autonomy events
-Republic Exile Government
-O'Duffy's Irish Brigade
-Romanian volunteers on the Nationalist side
-Spain refugee crisis
.... and more

Progress

Ready to be played, but it is being updated with more events as I find time.

However it is already fully functional and should improve your SCW without dramatically changing the game.

I would be curious to hear in the comments what you think of what you see so far. Please also let me know if you encounter any issues.

Compatibility

The mod is designed to work with the La Resistance DLC and is up to date with the latest patch. (Naturally it is also compatible with the new Götterdämmerung DLC).

The mod will work with mods that do not change the map.

A Note of Thanks

As this mod, my first mod on Steam workshop, has reached 100 subscribers, I would like to thank those using it for their confidence. I really appreciate it.

If you like the events and think they enhance your game, please let me know and leave a like (a comment would also be much appreciated, with any feedback you could provide). I am of course open to ideas that I am not already working on and am always looking to improve where necessary.

Mission Statement

First of all, this remains a passion project of mine: bringing the Spanish Civil War to a sufficient level of detail and flavour, while keeping it appropriately within the bounds of a balanced vanilla experience. The events of this conflict, whose echos reverberate up to this day in Spain (for many Spaniards, this was their WW2 essentially), also have a lot to say in our modern age, about a complete polarisation of a society, about the struggle between two visions of the world, the collapse of the political centre, the dehumanization of the other based on their beliefs.

I think it is fitting that this is done correctly and accurately, but also in a way where some balance in the narrative is kept.

I plan on working on this up until the point that the main parts of this complicated story are told.

Outside of the above, the Spanish Civil War is potentially the first war that a player encounters. It is where a new player may potentially learn how to use their air forces and ground troops in active combat. It is also for this reason that I wanted those joining with volunteer forces not only to have a more enjoyable experience, but one where they are party to at least some (definitely not all) of the events of the conflict, at least those relevant to the foreigners taking part.

There is still much work to be done, but I will be updating this as often as I can until that goal is reached. I will also endeavor to keep it updated throughout HOI4's lifecycle.

@Mauricio2427:

Thank you very much for going to the trouble to bring these issues to my attention. I believe they should now be solved with the update I just released.

In terms of Primo de Rivera's death and the lag of still having him appear as leader, this I believe is part of the vanilla mechanics, eventually lifted when Franco takes his place. Unfortunately, altering this may cause trouble to the vanilla game so I have left this issue as is.
For now, I have left it but will not rule out looking at it again.

The annoying issue of those repeating events, and the intro showing up at the 1939 start should now be solved, by contrast.

Amazing mod! I've been loving it so far, although I've noticed a couple of things that could be changed. The events "The Falange-Carlist Synthesis" and "Republican Exile Government in France" appear over and over again, which doesn't make sense. Also the initial event that appears on the 1st of January of 1936 and explains some of the background of what was going on also appears on the 1939 start date, which also doesn't make sense. And finally, José Antonio Primo de Rivera is still the leader of the fascist party even after his death's event has happened. So, it would be very cool that when the event of his death appears, the millitary junta became the leader of the fascist party. :Cadet_hoi:

Everything was fine now, it was a mod that modified the size of the air wing

Thank you for writing. I checked myself now as Germany and did not experience a crash or anything out of the ordinary. This may have been due to another mod you have on.
Again, my mod only adds events and should not conflict with anything.
