Not one step back - there is no room on the other side.

I watched as the bodies hung from the frozen trees that cloaked the Volga.
And beneath an indifferent sky, the frantic cried to the streets that bore them.
I watched the fires scorch humanity of its humanity -
And like a gravestone over Stalingrad, the god of war had gone to the other side.

...On the eve of the great Soviet counteroffensive, German units isolated near the Volga desperately hold back a viscous Soviet push into the heart of the city. Whether tonight brings victory or defeat, tomorrow will not bring hope. With the dawn of a new day, the city will grow ever colder, more ruined. With each passing minute, the nails are pressed further into the coffin of Stalingrad: the tomb of the German army in southern Russia.

Glad you had fun! I play tested this a few times to try to get the balance right where it would end up being a challenging game with no clear victor from the outset.

Played as the germans the first go, the soviets payed for every single inch we gave them. By the end of it, we had slaughtered 587 of theirs, while losing only 122 of our own. Still a soviet victory, but a phyrric one at best.
