Description
Notes:
- There are three fail states for this mission:
1. Loss of the USS Forrestal.
2. Arrival of Il-18 aircraft at Evenes.
3. Arrival of the Soviet convoy at Harstad.
- There is a low random chance of additional submarines appearing and strategic aviation anti-ship strikes occurring.
- Ensure the use of EA-6 Prowlers for their Electronic Warfare (EW) capabilities;
- Yes, you have F-4J, not F-14s. Might not be realistic but makes it a bit interesting;
- Air AI sucks, using A-6 Harpoon might be frustrating;
- Key to defending from ASM is the right formation.

USS Forrestal Comes to Narvik
Briefing:
Date: June 26, 1989
Location: USS Forrestal Task Force CTF 44.1
Situation Overview
After successfully sinking the aircraft carrier Tbilisi, we are poised for another critical engagement in the North Atlantic. CTF 44.1 aleady lost one destroyer and axuliery supply ship due to submarine attack, but it's still the most capable force in the region. Our mission is to intercept a Soviet naval convoy heading to Harstad, Norway. This convoy is accompanied by a Slava-class cruiser, and it is essential that we neutralize this threat before NATO reinforcements arrive in Bodø. Additionally, our air operations will focus on targeting Il-18 transport aircraft en route to Evenes airbase, which has recently fallen under Soviet VDV (Airborne Troops) control. Intelligence reports indicate that these Il-18s may be escorted by MiG-25 fighters, which could present a significant danger.
Mission Objectives
- Primary Objective: Intercept and Neutralize the Soviet Convoy
- Prevent the convoy from reaching Harstad to deny them resupply and reinforcements.
- Secondary Objective: Air Superiority Operations
- Deploy fighter aircraft from Bodø airbase to intercept inbound Il-18 transports.
Threat Assessment
- Hostile Submarine Activity: Increased submarine presence poses a substantial risk; we must maintain readiness and vigilance in Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) operations.
- Strategic Air Threat: While current intelligence suggests a low probability of aerial attacks on the Forrestal battlegroup, we must remain prepared for any eventuality.

I concentrated 40 harpoon missiles to attack the Glory class, but they all missed.

:steamfacepalm:

Thx for playing. Air units AI os really frustrating right now, I had to scale down this scenario a lot.

Brilliant mission - well paced and forces you to do varied tasks at the same time, I definitely had my hands full dealing with incoming vampires and running the intercept of the cargo flights at the same time.
