The Genryu is a regular armored aircraft carrier produced by the Empire in the late Oceanic War. Its purpose is to supplement the naval aviation force that was considered insufficient in the early stage of the war. There are a total of four ships, three of which were sunk in the counterattack phase of the war, and the remaining one was dismantled after the war. The four ships were assigned to two fleets, with two ships in each fleet.

The Genryu type is the successor model of the Taiho type armored aircraft carrier. Compared with various types of aircraft carriers built by the Empire before, including Taiho, the Genryu type has obvious progress in space planning and other equipment. This first resulted in the relative abundance of space in its hangar, which brought about an increase in the number of aircraft carried.

Considering the huge heat brought by the installation of high-power boilers and engines and the huge space occupied by the corresponding chimneys, the chimneys of the Genryu type were designed on the other side of the hull relative to the bridge.

The biggest feature of the Genryu type is its underwater part. Its propeller and rudder are designed to be relatively forward compared to previous aircraft carriers. In the design stage, such a design is considered to reduce the space occupied by the transmission mechanism on the hull, but in the post-war evaluation, experts generally believe that such a design does not have too much positive significance for space saving and reducing energy loss. In the eyes of some people, this design that reduces the space inside the ship is considered a failure.

Compared with the Shokaku type and Taiho type aircraft carriers, the biggest advantage of the Genryu type is its increased aircraft capacity. When it was launched, its aircraft capacity was once the largest among all aircraft carriers produced by the Empire. Compared with the previous Taiho type, the Genryu type has added a large elevator located in the middle of the hull, which can lift two aircraft at a time. This means that in the aircraft recovery stage, it can recover four aircraft at a time through the operation of three elevators, which greatly increases the recovery and release efficiency of its carrier-based aircraft.

Interestingly, as to why this type of aircraft carrier did not use wooden decks, some people revealed in the post-war analysis that it was actually in the later stages of the war that the Empire found that the production of suitable wood was not enough to meet the needs of various types of ships added in the later stages, and a large part of the high-grade wood was supplied to the Yashima-type battleships, which resulted in a lack of high-grade wood for laying decks on some ships, including aircraft carriers.

In the entire history of the Empire's aircraft carrier construction, the Genryu type was the largest aircraft carrier built by the Empire after the Shoryu, Jinryu and Jinho types. Its design ideas laid the foundation for these three types of later aircraft carriers in some aspects. In the war, its active performance also made extremely important contributions to the Empire's counterattack and stalemate in the later stages of the battle.

***Also:
I don't know if it's just me. Aircraft formation system in your saves might cause workshop upload failure, which says it's just due to the connection issue. So maybe if you want to upload something to workshop, just do not create any aircraft formation, maybe.
