Highlight Damaging Effects

Description
Quasimorph Highlight Damaging Effects

Highlights the bottom of the wound icon when when a wound is actively causing damage.

When in the middle of battle, it can be difficult to notice that a new -2 HP per action point wound has been added to the existing wounds.

This mod highlights the wound boxes that are causing damage.

The color can be changed in the configuration file.

Game Difficulty

The game notifies a player that they are taking damage by flashing the wound and player as well as making a "crunching" sound. The subtly of the notification may be a gameplay decision.

For example, in combat a person can be filled with so much adrenaline that they are unaware that they are wounded.

If that is the game's intent, this mod would be considered a difficulty reduction rather than a QoL.

However, since I was checking the wound panels constantly, it is more of a QoL for me.

Configuration

The configuration file will be created on the first game run and can be found at %AppData%\..\LocalLow\Magnum Scriptum Ltd\Quasimorph_ModConfigs\QM_HighlightDamagingEffects\config.json.

@Flounder: No, that's vanilla. That was confusing me for a second when I started playing, but it's just the fact that the devs haven't really individuated contusions from fractures. Think about it like this:

Minor Cut wounds will still show up as a bleed icon, and say 'Laceration' in the log, but they are like a 'Tier 1' Cut Damage wound.

Contusions are like a 'Tier 1' Blunt damage wound, so it's still, I guess...under the umbrella of 'Fractures'.

But no, totally part of Vanilla QM

@Flounder You can try without the mod and see if the issue still occurs.
You can also check the game's log file and see if there are any exceptions. Ignore the "can't find key" issues as that is normal for the game.

The log can be found at %UserProfile%\AppData\LocalLow\Magnum Scriptum Ltd\Quasimorph\Player.log

I verified that this mod is not doing anything tricky and should be quite compatible. Of course with mods, there is always a chance of unexpected side effects.

You can reach me on the game's Official discord server if you want to discuss this further. The Discord link is on the store page on the right hand side near the bottom.

Whenever my guys get a Contusion, the game shows Fracture in the log and in the Wound icon, but the Health screen shows Contusion. I'm trying to figure out why this is. I suspect this mod, but I'm not sure.

No. Try the floating damage text mod.

this mod shows effects on enemy units? i was looking for a mod that shows the effects that i've caused on enemies.

The config lets you change the color of damaging wounds. I'd like to change the color of non-damaging wounds, as I believe black is more appropriate for them.

Also, the highlight color can be changed in the config. I think that may be what you are referring to.

Hey @Ashnal, please create discussion in this mod (tab above) so we can discuss it. Thanks!

I was trying this out and noticed the default yellow color used makes the text almost illegible, since the text is the same color.

In terms of UI design, I think the red color that vanilla wounds are make sense for damaging wounds. Would it be possible to change non-damaging wounds color to a color that is less serious? Black background would fit the color scheme (and be very legible).

Thank you so much ^^
