The AML-90 is a French-made light armored reconnaissance vehicle that was adopted and modified by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) in the late 20th century. Originally developed by Panhard in the 1950s, the AML series was renowned for its versatility, lightweight design, and powerful weaponry for a vehicle of its size. The IDF acquired the AML-90 during the 1970s to enhance its reconnaissance and light armored combat capabilities.

Israel's unique operational needs led to modifications of the AML-90 to better suit the harsh desert environment and urban settings. These vehicles were used extensively in the Yom Kippur War (1973) and subsequent conflicts, particularly in reconnaissance, border patrol, and rapid-response roles.

The AML-90 was valued for its combination of speed, firepower, and maneuverability, which allowed it to outflank heavier armored threats or engage lightly armored vehicles effectively. Despite being replaced by more advanced systems in the 1980s, the AML-90 remains a notable part of Israeli military history for its role in bolstering the IDF’s tactical versatility.
