2.867 bricks.

I've wanted to remake the B-24 Liberator for a long time since my early version is... well it is, and I finally got around to it. It is VERY much an approximation due to available pieces Bob's phat *ss and weird hit boxes on pieces.

This in the "silver"/unpainted livery.

This build has definitely put me off building planes in Brick Rigs for the foreseeable future due to the utterly broken aerodynamics, the sometimes ridiculous hit boxes on some pieces (as in the huge gap that is necessary for the top turret to not make the whole plane flip when turned despite there clearly being enough room in earlier variants), and the always "interesting" ways actuators misbehave in the game. So please do not ask me to build any planes because I just won't; I'm f*cking done. I've spent 12(!) hours trying to get this thing to fly at least somewhat level and you still need near constant input since there's no lift under 180 kph, barely any under 300 kph and ALL THE F*CKING LIFT over 400 kph, and it also changes constantly due to the "dynamic flow physics" meaning if you dip the nose down 2 degrees all of a sudden lift changes, so thanks for this utterly broken gem of a game mechanic.

It has quite a high brick count but since the plane would look even more like a shoe box otherwise it is what it is. The interior is not at all correct due to Bob being a phat *ss and limitations of the game, and it is extremely simplified and cramped in some places, but at least all the crew have a seat.

This is the J version and has a crew of 11: pilot, co-pilot, navigator, bombardier, radio operator, nose turret, top turret, 2 waist gunners, ball turret, tail gunner.

It carries a Short Range Payload of 16 X 500 lb General Purpose bombs. Sadly the roller door/shutter type of bomb bay doors used on the B-24 can't be replicated in the game without actuator mayhem so I had to make regular flap doors.

At its inception, the B-24 was a modern design featuring a highly efficient shoulder-mounted, high aspect ratio Davis wing. The wing gave the Liberator a high cruise speed, long range and the ability to carry a heavy bomb load. In comparison with its contemporaries, the B-24 was relatively difficult to fly and had poor low-speed performance; it also had a lower ceiling and was less robust than the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress. While aircrews tended to prefer the B-17, General Staff favored the B-24 and procured it in huge numbers for a wide variety of roles. At approximately 18,500 units – including 8,685 manufactured by Ford Motor Company – it holds records as the world's most produced bomber, heavy bomber, multi-engine aircraft, and American military aircraft in history.

The B-24 was used extensively in World War II where it served in every branch of the American armed forces, as well as several Allied air forces and navies. It saw use in every theater of operations. Along with the B-17, the B-24 was the mainstay of the US strategic bombing campaign in the Western European theater. Due to its range, it proved useful in bombing operations in the Pacific, including the bombing of Japan. Long-range anti-submarine Liberators played an instrumental role in closing the Mid-Atlantic gap in the Battle of the Atlantic. The C-87 transport derivative served as a longer range, higher capacity counterpart to the Douglas C-47 Skytrain.

CONTROLS
Pilot's seat; Alt controls.
W/S: Variable throttle.
A/D: Ground steering / Yaw.
Up/Down Arrows / Mouse: Pitch. Be very careful when taking off since the plane rides very low and tail strikes are easy to do, pitch up slightly until airborne
Left/Right Arrows / Mouse: Roll.
X / Disable Steering: Landing gear.
Hold X / Invert Steering: Open Bomb bay doors.
Fire action 1 / Num 1: Drop bombs in sequence.
H / Headlights: Landing lights.

Bomber's seat.
Camera 1: Bomb sight. Since the plane is built primarily for SP the pilot drops the bombs. Feel free to edit.

Nose, Top, Tail turrets and Waist gunners; Alt controls.
WASD / Mouse: Aim.
Fire action 1 / Num 1: Fire. Two triple-stacked machine guns to somewhat simulate the cal .50.
Camera 1: Gun sight.

Ball Turret; Alt controls.
X / Disable steering: Lower/Raise turret. Only possible when centered facing to the rear. A green light will indicate if you are positioned correctly.
WASD / Mouse: Aim.
Fire action 1 / Num 1: Fire. Two triple-stacked machine guns to somewhat simulate the cal .50.
Camera 1: Gun sight.

To raise the turret make sure you are facing straight to the rear, machine guns horisontal. The green indicator light will turn on and you can press X to raise the turret. If you activate X in any other position you won't be a able to move at all, so press X again, rotate the turret into the correct position, then press X again.

Feel free to edit, but if you reupload publicly in any way please acknowledge the original creation and creator.

Have fun!

If you want precision bombing it's better to use and practice with one of the dive bombers. :)

There are ways to make planes stay at altitude etc using sensors and math brick etc but that's not somethign I'm interested in dealing with (especially on WW2 planes) but feel free to add such a mechanic if you find someone who can do it.
Also remeber that these planes were definitely NOT precision bombers back in the day but were lucky to get within half a mile of the target, albeit from a lot higher altitudes.
Again I say jsut practice a bit and you'll get a feel for when to drop the bombs if you use the same altitude and speed repeatedly. I have tested enough to pretty reliably drop the bomb load on the center of the city 9 times out of 10 from 300 meters, and if I miss it's not by much.

The issue is the plane behaves VERY differently with a full bombload (extra weight plus a lot of aerodynamic pieces on the fins) and without the bombs, so I've trimmed it as best I can with and without bombs on my PC which runs at 144 FPS. If you FPS is lower or higher than that or if you're in MP with some ping added all that goes out the window due to the fatc that the physics engine behaviour is tied to FPS.
I recommend you pick an altitude of 3-400 meters, stick to that and close to top speed and then just repeat bomb drops until you get the feel for it. Using the "bomb sight" is pointless, just gauge by eye and experience.

okay, well a little problem is there, because the planes wont stayon altitute wich makes it even harder to learn bombing yk? it just smth thati have noticed since i playbrickrigs, that a lot of bombers dont hold the altitude, i dont know how to build that so that they keep altitude at 0

I tested on the Grid Map and at max speed 340 kph and at 300 meters altitude the bombs travelled 600-650 meters before hitting the ground. That's about as precise as I can be.

I couldn't say TBH. THe lower you fly the easier it is of course, but if you're flying near full speed at 300 meter altitude it's pretty easy to learn to estimate the drop point. But it's something you have to practice and learn since at leat I am not able to build any useful bomb sight and I have no specific figures to give you.

Hey can you tell us wich is the optimal dropping height and speed for the plane to hit the target?
