Type-4 ''Omoi'' Super-Heavy Tank Destroyer

History of Type-4 ''Omoi''

The Type-4 was a result of an increasing need to combat American heavily armoured vehicles from the mid 40's onwards. Its design from the very start dictated a simple design that would be easy to build and maintain as a response to slowly dwindling resources. The Type-4 was envisioned to use many components from other existing industries, as not to create a burden of completely new manufacturing chains. The Type-4 was equipped with a repurposed naval cannon, and an engine originally used in heavy industries.

Design work and prototyping started in the late 30's, with work progressing intermittently as the design requirements kept changing due to newer and bigger American tanks. Introduced in late October of 1944, first units where only formed fully comprising of the Type-4 in spring 1945. The tank saw service right until the end of the war, with several field modifications made to the hull over its lifespan. Not many where built, as it was impractical to ship them across the Pacific, most stayed in defence of the home islands.

Stats and Features

  • Size: 10.75m x 4.25 x 4.00m
  • Speed: 35 kp/h
  • Crew: 6 (driver, assistant driver/radio operator, gunner, commander, loader, assistant loader)
  • Armament: Hoshiko Type-99 155mm cannon
  • Kurojin Type-19 7.7mm MG hull MG
  • Standard 2 way Japanese tank radio
  • HE/AP/FRAG ammunition types

Startup Procedure [VERY IMPORTANT]

  1. Enter the driver compartment and turn on the electric breaker, engine pumps and magneto.
  2. Prime the engine oil pressure until it reaches around 35.
  3. Hold the engine starter until the engine turns over.

Further Notes
- The tank is not ideal going up steep slopes, something about weighing ''70'' tons is not conducive to hills
- The gun loads faster if both loaders are seated in their respective seats
- Gun loading procedure: first load the shell (right side of breech) by holding the button until the indicator is full, then load the propellant (left side of breech) until the indicator is also full, then slam the breech by toggling and un-toggling the respective switch

About the Project
The Pacific Front is a Alternate History Project about the time from 1940s through to the 70s in a time of turmoil, war and desperation. It focuses on the countries around the pacific ocean, like the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Russia, China and a lot more. All the the project vehicles are fictional in nature and have their own story, lore and design. The Projects creations have a tendency for high fidelity, decoration and multi crew operation.
