Description
Designed for independent work far from support or maintainance, the Star Talon was designed as a multi-role attack frigate equipped to handle a variety of situations. It houses two forward firing EMP cannon to disable enemy ships, while using the under-slung dual-barrel magnetic accelerator to force targets to evade - and hence prevent accurate return fire. At the rear is an AMS system to protect the Star Talon from missiles if a fight proves too dangerous, and topside are two small multiple missile launchers and two gatling cannon, primarily for anti-fighter duties.

In addition, the Star Talon has hangar bay capacity for three kinetic or two missile armed drones for close air support and cover. Tactically, these can also be used for recon, or to test an enemy ship's abilities before engaging in a potentially fatal battle for the crew of this capable but ultimately thin-skinned vessel. Although it has excellent shielding thanks to its large Kinetic Field, the Star Talon has only minimal armour - a compromise necessary to mount so many offensive and defensive options, and such a strong shield. This leaves the Star Talon vulnerable to EMP fire, or when its shields are down.

Freelancers are fond of the Star Talon for its 'Fight or Flight' versatility, ergonomic interior design (perfect for long-haul missions), ability to run effectively with limited crew, and high Kinetic Field capacity. If commanded by an experienced and astute captain, it can count as much as a ship twice its tonnage. Star Talons have been used across the void by mercenaries, pirates, adventurers and militias to great effect. With such a high percentage of space battles being terminal affairs for one or both parties involved, it makes a welcome change for many Spacers to crew a ship designed to keep its crew alive.
