It was developed at the Sergo Ordzhonikidze Kharkov Plant. The chief designer of the chassis is A. F. Belousov, and the 122-mm 2A31 guns are F. F. Petrov. The Gvozdika is designed to suppress and destroy manpower, artillery and mortar batteries, as well as to destroy bunkers, secure passages in minefields and field barriers.
