Description
Lore: The war against the pirates had been a long and costly one with many a good people being lost to its horrors. One of the people in the room who understood it all too well was Yeland Hawk. He toured the newly completed Generation 2 Hawkman Battlecruiser making sure everything was perfect. Darius, Captain Blade, Lt Kaol, Aleena and the 5 Gold XM pilots waited for their friend to give the word of the ship passing inspection as a somber mood was in the air. Yeland sat down in the captain’s chair to look over some final stuff and then sent word to his friends the ship was ready to go. He glanced down at the call sign and registry that had belonged to his son. He was jarred from his thoughts briefly by a crewman seeking permission to uncouple from the shipyard. Yeland gave the command and the second generation cruiser was now under its own power with a little better than skeleton crew onboard. As his friends each saluted him on the monitor on the bridge Yeland saluted them back. His eyes then briefly met young Aleena’s. She was an extremely talented technopath for such a young age. His mind thought of his son in that moment. He missed his son greatly, but he was proud to have had the privilege of being the boy’s father. How many kids like her were saved thanks to his son’s sacrifice buying enough time to evacuate the colony world he swore to protect. He hoped the war would be over soon so young people like her would never know its horrors.

“Sir distress signal coming in from a neighboring star system.” A crewman called out. “put it through.” Yeland commanded. He listened to the cry for help on the other end. It was a pair of civilian transport ships, one carrying a small amount of mined ores and another a passenger vessel. They had limited armaments and had taken heavy damage. The civilian transport had several sick people aboard being transported to a nearby hospital, several of them children. A primal rage burned in Yeland’s soul. Before the message was even finished Yeland had already given the command to jump to warp. The Red Alert claxon sounded as the shields and weapons came online and the crew prepared for battle. Back on base Lt Kaol, Captain Blade and Aleena were boarding Bepi Dreadnought carrier while Darius’s personal Shendar cruiser jumped to warp with the Gold XM boys right behind him. The Bepi would join them a moment later.

In system the Hawkman dropped out of warp just in time to put itself between the passenger ship and a nearly fatal blow from an attacking pirate ship. The rocket impacted the shields of Hawkman causing the shields to flare but barely touching the energy reserves. The Hawkman opened fire sending a full volley towards pirates. There were no negotiations, there were no demands of surrender, there would only be justice. Yeland began giving commands to the crew and it was as if he was the younger man from the previous war again. Pirate fighters tried to flank the cruiser but were swatted away. It would take the others a few minutes to catch up but by the time they did the battle was nearly complete. The lead pirate vessel turned tail to run while it still could with its damaged engines. Yeland took over controls from the pilot and engaged a pursuit course with both ships jumping to warp at the same time.

The Hawkman’s forward shields were gone and it had taken some minor hull damage. Yeland locked weapons aiming for the engines and fired, disabling them with precision. The pirate ship was adrift as he brought the cruiser around in front. This time locking weapons onto the bridge of the pirate ship and reactors before firing. The ship exploded in a fury ending the conflict. It was quiet at the base when all the civilians were being treated. Yeland glanced over at the Hawkman cruiser back in dry dock for minor repairs. Soon he was greeted by his pals. There were no words but just nods of understanding. He was almost old enough to be Aleena’s grandpa and hoped she would never see that side of him more than necessary. He struck out of anger and vengeance and was sure he had disappointed her. She didn’t say a word but simply hugged him in understanding for she too had lost her original home thanks to pirates. Hopefully this was one of the last times that side of himself would ever surface and they could put down the renewed syndicate once and for all.

Notes: Years ago I created the Jx 8372 Hawkman cruiser to compliment my other hydrogen based ships at the time and it did decently enough for 2017. However the hydrogen changes made soon after crippled all of my large grid hydrogen powered craft forcing rebuilds. As time went on and I learned to mod the game I wanted to rebuild my old ships using new and better tech. Thus we come to the Gen 2 Hawkman cruiser. Ship is meant to be a battlecruiser and is designed with more combat in mind. She won’t win beauty contests but attempts to space out various systems more than other cruisers. Mid-longer range cruiser meant for a purer combat role using my 2125 era tech. Ship can move quickly and turn fairly fast for a cruiser its size, especially at speed. If you want a pirate hunter ship, something to slap Factorum around, or just something to troll your friends with using 2125 tech, this may be the ship for you. Capable of operating solo or in packs. Also ship doesn't actually have shields in reality like it does in lore.
