Description
Play as the Dragon of Bosnia, Husein Gradascevic; in Sid Meier's Civilization VI.

Bosniaks emerged in the wake of the Ottoman conquest of the Balkans. The Bosnian national identity was tied to the Serbo-Croats living on the River Bosna coupled with an independent monastic community known as the Bosnian Church. As they were not in communion in Rome nor Constantinople, the Good Bosnian monks were not theologically fortified enough to resist Sunni preachers. Thus the Bosniaks evolved as Islam spread throughout the Dinaric Alps. Much like Albanians, Greeks, and Romanians across the Ottoman Empire, the Bosniaks became a prominent ethnicity that contributed to Ottoman military advancement and Islamic thought. 1908 AD was the fateful year when Austria-Hungary annexed Bosnia and Herzegovina, leading to a cascade of nationalist violence the erupted as World War I. Later Bosniaks would be tempered by the humanitarian disasters of World War II and the Bosnian War.
