When LEAF took the lead in developing the HLC-1 standard together with Helios and Crash Industries, they needed a truck and module to serve as an example. For the module, a simple flat cargo bed was sufficient, but if they wanted to properly test the standard, something more than a basic truck was needed.

The Giraffe prototype heavy modular truck offers maximum compatibility with HLC-1, extreme off-road capibilities, and a cab mounted on an arm for optimal visibility of both the truck's surroundings and the modular interface, making testing as efficient as possible.

WASD: driving
Q/E: blinkers
G: stabilizing feet
J/U: headlights / high beams
K: beacons / flashers
H: horn
Z: lock/unlock connector
1/2/3/4: activate HLC-1 passthrough functions
P; / l' / o[ : cab up/down, bottom left / right, top left / right
