Description
Co-Op vs Ai can be great fun! Let's improve it!

This mod changes the relative X-Y dimensions of the maps (or aspect ratios), so that the number of hex "rows" is 33% more than the hex "columns", while maintaining approximately the same total number of hexes as vanilla map sizes. It also adjusts the Mini-map aspect ratio, increasing the vertical aspect. Finally, it modifies the turn timers to my taste, including an "Autopass" timer for ZukoDim.

I noticed being separated horizontally across the map seemed to take more time to meet the enemy. The reason is a bit esoteric, but in one way of thinking, horizontal movement takes, on average, 33% more hexes than vertical movement, due to the anisotropy of hex maps. So, I did some math and implemented this basic solution.

This mod changes the WorldParameters blueprint XML, so may not work with mods that adjust timers/region densities/etc.

Enjoy!

I think that's right. Even though the X=Y in vanilla, since each dX is (in one way of thinking) _in practice_ longer than dY, it's closer to cylindrical projection.
I also agree that the maps seem to be sectors rather than a whole globe, but that's having thought a bit too long and deeply about what is a fancy Chessboard. (XP).
Your idea re: square is a solid one, though I think this mod is in a pretty good place. I likely won't make changes anytime soon, unless its to squash a bug. I have other mods which need making.

but if we speak of a cylindrical sphere projection, it makes the vanilla more accurate?
if we mod to equalize the length of x and y, wed be having something like a sector of gladius, instead of the whole planet.
the maps are kinda small and dont make sense as the whole planet.
so maybe this mod is one bit better. it just might need some visual aid, to appear more square.
what do you think about that?

Hey, Ix, thanks for clearing that up for me.

My closest interaction with Proxy Studios:
I once wrote a joke on Proxy Studios' public Discord, and "Rok" (a dev) reacted to it with a laugh. I cherish that emoji.

I think this is a solid "quality-of-life/play" mod. If I could, I'd rotate the hex-grid with my ratios 90-degrees. That way, we'd get equitable ratios with a map which looked like a standard Earth projection (wider > tall)!

I prefer these ratios. Without them, the maps feel crowded along the left & right sides, empty along the top & bottom. So I hear you! For now, convince your players to sub to my mod (=P). If I reach a 100 subs or something I might feel brave enough to bug the professionals about this little weekend project (XD).

:steamhappy:
I really appreciate the comment, though, it made me happy!

hell...
once again...
have you suggested to the devs to change the game, according to what you have described in here? it is a flaw of the game and it needs to be fixed for everyone.

im talking just for the map size part of your mod

excellent mod, thanks!
