Lore:
To maintain communications throughout the Republic, a dedicated core of civilian couriers go between the various outposts and colonies carrying high value mail, data and news. However, there are military scenario where security and performance cannot be met by civilian couriers.

The Townsend Class was specifically develop to fill this need. A small, and fast jump capable ship capable to transporting sensitive information, personnel and cargo to far flung military outposts, fleets and other military assets. The Townsend is also relatively stealth profile to help it break through blockades or remain discrete.
