Description
Back then, the Lars Empire and the Gradius Union were a single polity known as the Gradius Empire. The troubles started shortly after James Burton became Emperor Lars XVIII after his predecessor died childless and stemmed from disputes between James, and his engineer Tatsuya Shiba over the latter's sister. James was in love with Miyuki, but her heart was set on Tatsuya. This act of incest was something that James disapproved, and he tried to wean her from her brother. It is unclear what happened, but after James plotted to have Tatsuya killed, the latter started a coup and James was forced to withdraw along his loyalists and Miyuki to one of the backwater planets.
