Description
Bumping in the Black Sea Reloaded

With some radio chatter and sound effects Added!

SITREP: February 12, 1988. Soviet waters, southwest of Crimea Peninsula. You're the Commander of a US Task Group engaged in a Freedom of Navigation Operation (FONOP) to enforce our right of innocent passage within Soviet territorial waters. Stay on the plotted course to enter the FONOP Zone (purple circle) before 08:15 Zulu and show the Soviets they must respect International Law. Exercise caution and only open fire if fired upon first. Good luck Commander.

Historical Notes: This is a what if scenario (loosely) based on real events known as The 1988 Black Sea Bumping Incident, when USS Yorktown (CG-48) and USS Caron (DD-970) tried to exercice their right of innocent passage through Soviet territorial waters in the Black Sea. For more information check the Wikipedia page dedicated to this incident AFTER you've played the scenario in order to avoid spoilers.

Design Notes: This an updated version of my previous scenario of the same name. This version adds radio chatter to increase immersion. This was done by using Speechma - Free Text to Speech Online. Radio effects were added, using Movavi 2020 editor and sound effects from Pixabay.

Changelog Jan 15, 2025: Changed the audio file names (for more complicated ones) to make sure to avoid conflict with other scenarios/mods and changed the way audio files are activated in the mission.

Thanks for your feedback. Just updated the scenario to make sure to avoid conflicts with other scenarios/mods. Normally it should fix the issue.

Glad to help. Signal Sierra November is another fun one "You should stop immediately. Do not scuttle. Do not lower boats. Do not use the wireless. If
you disobey I shall open fire on you." page 81 (pdf page 86) but my favorite is Alfa Delta "I am abandoning my vessel which has suffered a nuclear accident and is a possible source of
radiation danger" or Alfa Juliett "I have had a serious nuclear accident and you should approach with caution." page 64 (pdf 69)

Many thanks for these information Anti-Personic Bullet. I just downloaded the International code of signals quite useful indeed

I forgot to mention that there are signals specifically for freedom of navigation/innocent passage operations on page 86 and 87 (91 and 92 of the complete pdf)

Considering the US and Soviet navies use/used different codes than INTERCO I'm not sure those specific warning would have been used but they could have been. I'm also uncertain whether before the collapse of the USSR the wording would have been the same (soviet vs russian waters) because I can't find a copy of a suitable revision online.

Also the 149th page of the International Code of Signals (1969 US edition revised 2020, pub 102) might be of interest, its available online from the US national geospatial intelligence agency's website (google "international code of signals pub 102"). The 149th page is on the 153rd page of the complete pdf file.

I know there isn't anything representative in stock sea power yet, but you might want to look at the wikipedia page for Object 100 Utes, also known as Sotka, built in 1954 and still active today

Original mission gets played a few times a week. Looking forward to trying this out!
