SS Indarra

Originally part of the Ocean Liners Pack before the addon became an archive for the retired models.



Here is the liner SS Indarra.

She was owned by the Australasian United Steam Navigation Company. In 1920 the ship was purchased by the Compagnie Maritime Belge and renamed Pays de Waes. 3 years later, she was bought by the Japanese Osaka Shosen Kaisha and renamed Horai Maru. She was used as a troopship in WW2, and sunk during the Battle of the Java Sea. She sank after the cruiser Mogami fired a spread of torpedos that missed USS Houston. The torpedoes missed Houston and hit 5 other Japanese ships, sinking 2 (Horai Maru and a minesweeper), and damaging 3 others. The action was considered to be the best torpedo shots ever fired.
