USA 1804 Presidential Election

US Presidential Elections
6 items
Description
Fifth in a series of maps of the US States (and Territories) of each Presidential Election Year.

Most of the Northwest Territory was admitted as the 17th State of Ohio, with the remainder of the territory being transferred to the Indiana Territory.

Georgia also dropped all of its western land claims over the Mississippi Territory, with the remainder of its western claims being added to the same territory.

Following the Louisiana Purchase, a very large swath of land was annexed to the US, nearly doubling its size. The Louisiana purchase was divided into the Orleans Territory and the District of Louisiana. The District of Louisiana was legally under the jurisdiction of the Indiana Territory, and thus starts as a "puppet" to the same in this scenario.

The 1804 election saw Republican incumbent U.S. President Thomas Jefferson of Virginia running for re-election against former U.S. Minister to France & Revolutionary War Hero Charles Cotesworth Pinckney of South Carolina. Pinckney had served as John Adams's running mate in the election of 1800.

Thomas Jefferson's running mate was New York Governor George Clinton.
Charles C. Pinckney's running mate was U.S. Minister to France and former U.S. Senator Rufus King, also from New York.

The Seventeen States are divided into two alliances based off of which candidate received the most electoral votes for President from that state in the 1804 election:

Thomas Jefferson, Republicans - PA, NJ, GA, MA, MD, SC, NH, VA, NY, NC, RI, VT, KY, TN, OH
Charles C. Pinckney, Federalists - DE, CT

Five non-state territories which did not participate in the election are not part of any alliance:
District of Columbia
Mississippi Territory
Indiana Territory
Orleans Territory
District of Louisiana

I personally reocommend disabling revolts entirely (until the no new nations bug is fixed) in Godmode.
If you want to play with the presidential election result as a primary factor, you can also disable alliance changing, though because of Jefferson's massive landslide it will result in a likely very easy sweep.

The number of cities that each state has is based off of how many seats in the House of Representatives were apportioned to the States following the Census of 1800.
Numbers in parantheticals indicate how many cities were gained or lost compared to the previous election.

DE: 1 City
PA: 18 Cities (+5)
NJ: 6 Cities (+1)
GA: 4 Cities (+2)
CT: 7 Cities
MA: 17 Cities (+3)
MD: 9 Cities (+1)
SC: 8 Cities (+2)
NH: 5 Cities (+1)
VA: 22 Cities (+3)
NY: 17 Cities (+7)
NC: 12 Cities (+2)
RI: 2 Cities
VT: 4 Cities (+2)
KY: 6 Cities (+4)
TN: 3 Cities (+2)
OH: 1 City (New)

Non-State Territories get one city each for their capital. This is intentional and by design, since the territories tended to be lower population over very large areas. This makes those regions easy to capitulate, which was the desired effect.

Regarding the names of cities, the capitals of the states are based off of what the actual capitals of those states were in 1804 (only MS Territory's capital changed between the two elections).

For the remaining cities, I attempted to find the most populous cities in the states based off of the Census of 1800. Several States had Census data which went only to the county-level, and so combining that data with some maps from the period, which mostly only had one city or town per county, and thus chose a city (usually the county seat) for the most populous counties in those states according to the 1800 Census.

The shape and terrain for this map is based off of the province map from Victoria 2. Likewise the shapes of the states are mostly drawn from that, with some modifications that I made to make them more accurate in some areas, and to reflect period-specific borders.

A special thanks to user Titanium Steel for his Scenario Converter python script for making these scenarios possible.
