Country Town cross road

Description
This is my first Map I have made from begining to end it is a 2v2. It has a mix of tree and bush seasons because I like colour and wasn't going for a perfectly autentic look.

@Gilliosa: This is really a well done map! I can tell you put in lots of time and energy into it. You say in the description that the seasons aren't accurate because you were going for color, but I think the mix reminds me of September into early October which does make it feel authentic. The detail is great and love the different vignettes and scenes through out the map. Wouldn't mind seeing some extra detail around the buildings like bicycles, clothes lines, and stuff like that. The town looks a little bare in that regard. I think this map could even be a 3v3 if you wanted. Otherwise really well done! Thanks for sharing it!

The "soft edge" is made using the interactivity stage in the map editor. You just paint it similar to modifying sectors. There are only three values you want to use:

0 = playable area

50 = "call-in" area, units can move in through this area but you can't order them into it and they can't enter it once they've been in the playable area unless it's a retreating unit like the last man from an AT gun running off the map.

100 = unplayable area, you never really need to use this. If you have spots you don't want units moving through in the call-in area you can just manually mark them impassable.

Hope that helps

Thanks BC that is helpful for sure, I havn't gotten the hang of blending all that well yet. However the soft edge I am refering to is the deployment, where you can still see terrain for a short distance as the units move onto the command area, ie semois, in the corners you can controll them untill they hit the controlsection of the map (maybe I'm not explainng this very well sorry) it probably isn't such a big deal anyway.

I diddnt think about the snip tool thats not a bad idea! In regards to your question the only way that i have been able to soften the edge is by using the elevation tool. I like to "feather" the toll to 100 or 0 dependeding on how sharp of and edge that you want. Make sure to play around with the "Strength" option to give you a lot more control of how much the area is effected by the change.

the same goes for the "tile" function it can be really helpful when trying to blend two different areas together (i.e grass transitioning into mud), and is helpful to get rid of the harsh edgee that comes with a lot of splats.

the units will come in right on top of the marker in whatever direction it is pointed, just make sure they are in your starting territory otherwise it wont save. At least for me that was an issue I ran into a lot when I was starting out.

hope this was helpful!

Thanks Bobble Cream. I was trying to take shots witht he snipping tool... I didn't consider doing ingame screen shots. oh me. I will get some up in the next 2 days some time. oh I had one question as a new map creator.
How do I impliment the soft edge on my maps? it may not really matter but I imagine some people like it, and do the units literally spawn on the deploty icon facing the dirrection of the arrow? or in front of it..

Looking good so far! Throw up some in-game screen shots so we can see your work. If you need any help with map stuff just reach out. Good work.
