The military conflict between the coalition of Arab States and Israel over the lost territories during the Six-day war was resumed on October 22 under the ceasefire agreement. However, it was violated, with each side accusing the other of violating it. By October 24, the Israelis had significantly improved their positions and completed the encirclement of Egypt's Third Army and the city of Suez. The United States and the USSR, clearly unhappy with the ongoing conflict, sent their fleets to the combat area to advance their interests in the Arabian Peninsula.

США И СССР явно недовольные идущим конфликтом отправили свои флоты в район боевых действий для продвижения своих интересов в аравийском полуострове.
