Description
A character from my "Rescued From History" series

An American Civil War veteran from the ancient past finds himself lost in a modern world and escapes to the stars.

Make sure to read his bio for details on his story!

Samuel excels at quickly performing triage and healing the injured as a former field combat medic, though doing so brings back traumatic memories that affect his mental wellbeing temporarily and thus affects his efficiency.

He's also an excellent cook and extremely adept at combat with pistols, being a gunslinger both as a hobby and when he needs to defend himself.

He doesn't mind having to do crafting activities indoors, but has no interest in physical labor, research, or farming, and is all thumbs when it comes to building anything.

If you help Samuel work through his issues by having him get used to healing, physical labor, and farming, his trauma will be healed and those skills will become interests along with no longer fearing being outside.

Strengths:
  • 4x attack and critical hit rate, 50% bonus damage and 25% more range with any pistols.
  • 3x healing speed (when unlocked).
  • 2x cooking speed, meals are exquisite for an additional happiness bonus. Supports baking and grilling from Cyberpunks/Old Earth Tech mods.
  • 25% faster walking and running.
  • Comes equipped with a custom revolver that does solid damage against creatures, but not much against robots.
  • Needs less sleep to be rested.

Weaknesses:
  • 2x attack penalty with any non-pistol weapons.
  • Suffers a temporary happiness penalty when healing due to trauma and won't have the faster healing speed until he's able to move past it.
  • Can't construct or perform Project-X related activities. Poor at research, physical labor, and farming. The latter two could change with time...
  • Suffers a happiness penalty from being outdoors, but gains a happiness penalty when indoors. He may be able to move past this however...

  • Distillation

To Do List for future versions:
  • Implement an additional happiness penalty when healing, but will rebound to a recovery happiness buff after it expires.

FYI, the Vanilla Weapon Tags mod is now a dependency with the code change to use tags in the weapon related traits. Without it, the bonuses won't work for vanilla ranged pistols.

Actually it looks like Coconut antibiotics isn't a vanilla thing, which I'm surprised by. Question is, what does it belong to? Lol.

I removed that as well.

Thanks! I'll fix that, been playing for so long that I forgot mead, and steak & veggies are from mods and not vanilla.

Coconut antibiotics is vanilla though, so that one is peculiar. I just uploaded a new version with the above two taken out. Can you try it again?

Black screen on game start if you use Samuel. Solved by erasing Antibiotics coconut from research and alcohol mead and steak and vegetables from favorites

Removed a trait that was supplied by another mod on accident, just in cause you didn't have Skills Mastery Rewards installed and experienced crashes or issues.

Major overhaul for Samuel.

Added a mechanic where if you help him work through his trauma, he'll gain interest in Healing, Farming, and Physical along with gaining his healing speed bonus and losing his outdoor happiness penalty.

To do so, level up those three skills to their Indifferent max of 6 and at or after two years of game time has elapsed, the changes will apply.

Thanks! I've thought about doing something like that, though thus far it's only been people that have been involved in historical events.

Some changes are coming to him soon btw. Swapping Physical and Crafting as indifferent/normal skills since Crafting is more an of an indoor activity, and Physical almost entirely outdoors. That will make more sense with his outdoor/indoor bonus/penalty.

Also working on getting the happiness buff on Healing working.

When/if injto4ka is able to update SAD_CommonLib to support it, I also plan on adding a function to speed up the pistol firing animation so he gets the full benefit of his 4x speed pistol attack bonus.

I think this is a fun idea. I'd love to see more survivors snatched from history. Could even use real people from history.
