Description
Half-Life 2 Version

Kuvyka is a village in the Tatishchevsky district of the Saratov region.

The village is located in the southwestern part of the Tatishchevsky district at the confluence of the Gryaznukha with the Idolga, on the left bank of the Idolga River, 35 kilometers from Saratov and 7 kilometers from the district center of the village of Tatishchevo.

According to a widespread but not documented version, the village of Kuvyka was founded as early as 1599, making it one of the oldest settlements in the region.

Kuvyka was first marked on the map at the end of the 18th century.

In addition to agriculture, the villagers were engaged in handicrafts, the most developed of which were knitting from wool, hemp and thread stockings, gloves and mittens, making felt boots, dyeing wool and making sashes.

In 1859, there were 117 households in this settlement, in which 454 men and 467 women lived. There was a mill and a post office. At the end of the 19th century, a parochial school attached to the Nikolskaya Church of Marinovka was located and began to work in a rented house.

The 1905 Revolution was welcomed by the villagers and even took an active part in the peasant popular movement. In 1912, a bridge over the Idolga was built at the expense of one of the landowners. On November 2 (15), 1914, an altar in the name of St. Michael the Archangel was consecrated at the parish school.

In the late 1920s, a spacious wooden seven-year school was put into operation. During the Great Patriotic War, 107 villagers did not return from the front. In 1960, the school was transformed into an elementary school and for a long time was housed in various classrooms adapted for classes, after which in 1976 it moved into a new purpose-built building with two spacious classrooms and a large corridor. In the late Soviet period, Kuvyka belonged to the Oktyabrsky Village Council and was the center of the Zarechny collective farm.

Were they born in the village:

Artist Valentina Yakovlevna Grigorieva;
Hero of the Soviet Union Grigory Frolovich Shigaev - the central street of the village is named after him.
