The Grand Army (and Navy) of Bretonnia

Description
Our largest and most ambitious mod to date. It incorporates all the alterations made in and units from our prior Peasant Leadership, Squires of Bretonnia, Beggars and Hermits, and Shielded Polemen mods, while adding a host of new units, abilities, and reskins.

Lords

All Lords have a new redline skill that provides buffs to the Criminal and Mercenary units (see below). In addition, the Legendary Lords have received the following changes:

• Louen’s Army of the King skill now provides additional unit cap for Foot Knight (see below) units in addition to replenishment for Knights. He was otherwise in a good place and is therefore the least changed of the LLs.
• The Fay Enchantress’ starting army contains several units of the new Carcassonne Shepherdesses, and she has two new skills buffing respectively, Shepherdesses, and Battle Pilgrims and Grail Reliques.
• Repanse’s starting army now features several Rascal and Brigand units, including a Brigand Bombard. She has two new skills, one effecting Rascals and Brigands, the other Beggar Knights and Robber Knights.
• Alberic has had a fleet attached to him via the Shipbuilding mechanic and can recruit an array of naval themed units through it. His skills have been expanded upon so that he can now support these new units, and his starting army overhauled to give him a better chance of surviving an early clash with Skulltaker.

Peasants

Farms will now add Peasant Bowmen to your Garrisons. Battle Pilgrims, Grail Reliques, and the Holy Wardens have had their Leadership restored to 80, 85, and 90 respectively, and have all their Game 1 and 2 faces back. New units available in this category are Shielded and Unshielded Villein Militiamen, armed with shoddy halberds or equally shoddy crossbows (available from the Industry building chain), Ribald Sailors with Boarding Pikes, Boarding Axes and Shields, or Great Weapons (available from Alberic's fleet), and a new Peasant Mob RoR.

Men-at-Arms

All Men-at-Arms units have gained a third helmet for the sake of variety. Men-at-Arms and Spearmen-at-Arms have had their Leadership restored to 50. Polemen-at-Arms have had theirs returned to 56 and have found their missing Shields from TT, gaining the customary increases to Melee Defense, Recruitment Cost, and Upkeep in the process. They are joined by the Seamen-at-Arms and Seamen Archers of Alberic's fleet, who protect Bretonnia's ships of the line wtih Boarding Pikes, Longbows, and Gunpowder Arrows, and by a new Spearman-at-Arms RoR.

Squires

Foot Squires have 70 Leadership again and the Beastslayers of Bastonne, 80. Both have been reskinned to look more like units in their own right and less like dismounted Questing Knights or Knights Errant. The Mounted, Longbow, and Boarspear Squires from our Squires of Bretonnia mod have been imported and the Longbow and Boarspear variants added to Garrisons; the Boarspears have been improved with their new Sturdy Crosshaft ability. The Fox's Hounds RoR has also been imported from the prior mod, and new Aquatic Ship's Squires with Boarding Axes and Shields are available from Alberic's fleet and the Shrine to Manaan.

Criminals and Mercenaries

In Bretonnia, the line between “professional mercenary” and “career criminal” is a fine one indeed. Units in this section do not count towards your Peasant cap, and have a slew of specialist abilities, but swap the Peasant’s Duty for the Honourless trait, which debuffs the Ld of nearby Knights. The buildings they’re recruited from are also a double-edged sword, providing Trade income, increased recruitment slots, and Garrison troops, but burning your Chivalry, Public Order, and Agricultural and Industrial output—though some of these downsides may be mitigated by the new Merchant Club building chain, which further bolsters your Trade while cutting the cost and increasing the recruitment XP of the Criminal and Mercenary units. Units present include Rascal meatshields, hybrid anti-large Carcassonne Shepherdesses, and the Brigands and Buccaneers, who are highly mobile elite light infantry flankers. RoR Rascals and Shepherdesses have also been added to the Renown pool.

L'Ordonnance

Bretonnia now has two separate building chains for artillery—the Workshop chain, where traditional siege equipment is made, and underground (and Chivalry burning) Gunsmiths where primitive blackpowder weapons are churned out for criminals and dishonourable nobles. With rare exception, all gunpowder weapons will have the Honourless trait, for while they are not illegal in Bretonnia, they are regarded as deeply unchivalrous. New units include Pox and Fire throwing Field Trebuchets, the Buccaneer Bomb Throwers, the Pots de Fer bolt-thrower, and Brigand and Blessed Bombards. As a general rule, Bretonnian gunpowder units will have shorter range and poorer accuracy than those of other races, but will hit harder and do a better job of defending themselves in melee.

Knights

All the vanilla Knights now have Glorious Charge because it was frankly silly that they didn’t have it before. Several new types of Foot Knight have been added, all of which are unit capped and recruitable only by certain LLs to simulate their in-universe rarity. Impoverished Beggar Knights are available to Louen and Repanse, Aquatic Knights Voyageur and Knights Corsair to Louen and Alberic, disgraced Robber Knights to Repanse, and powerful Hermit Knights to the Fay Enchantress.

As far as future development goes, at some stage we would like to give some of the new units unique voice lines, but that’s beyond our current level of skill. There were some modeling issues that prevented some planned units from being added to the mod at launch; we will continue to work on these problems and add the units to the mod when the issues are resolved. We will also be looking to feedback from players as to any bugs we may have missed and as to what, if any, improvements the at-launch roster could use.

This is such a cool mod, I do alot of custom battles with Bretonnia so it's exciting to see so many new units

@Karl Franz

The mod already adds several gunpowder based units, including the Buccaneer Mob, the Brigand Gunnery Mob, the Pots de Fer, the Brigand and Blessed Bombards, the Buccaneer Bomb Thrower, and Seamen Archers with Gunpowder Arrows. We intend to eventually add gun-armed hero, but have no specific plans beyond that.

Is there any chance of you adding in bretonnian peasant naval units using Handguns? Lorewise gunpowder is considered un-chivalrous but peasants don't need to worry about chivalry, Especially considering bretonnian ships carry cannons on occasion from what i gather.

@Rin

That's one of the reasons we felt the need to add all the naval units. It's a side of Bretonnia a lot of people aren't familiar with and it adds some nuance to their portrayal. Our next big update will hopefully add Lords-Admiral to Alberic to enable a fully naval campaign for him.

Fun fact Bretonnia has one of the strongest navies in lore,they give Dark Elves raider smack a lot. Malus almost died in books while raiding Bretonia.

Awesome. Will use this when starting a new legendary ironman campaign. =)

Kudos

We haven't tested it with those mods, but I wouldn't expect there to be a problem with Bertrand at least--I don't believe there's much overlap in terms of which units they fiddle about with. Of course, if you wanted to recruit our Brigands out of his hordes you'd need to make a submod.

@Modern Spartan

I honestly considered giving Alberic a landship as a mount, but couldn't justify it to myself in the end.
Anax 2 Mar @ 2:33pm
can we have a mod with only these units?
Modern Spartan 1 Mar @ 9:20pm
I was hoping this meant a Bretonnian landship of some kind, but this is still a VERY welcome mod!
